Job Description:
St. Paul's School seeks an experienced Boiler Operator who will operate, maintain, and service the boilers and the Central Heating Plant. In the non-heating season, provides general maintenance assistance to the Facilities group. This position will work the overnight shift, from 8pm-6am, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor daily operation of the boilers, making adjustments as necessary. This includes both the physicalequipment of the operation and the computer controlling software.
  • Test boiler water and add chemicals to maintain correct composition.
  • Perform routine mechanical tasks in the servicing of the steam plant equipment.
  • Assist and provide backup for the Chief Engineer.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to a variety of HVAC equipment.
  • Maintain functionality and cleanliness of the boiler rooms and facilities.
  • Provide general maintenance assistance to the various functions and craft groups of the Maintenancesection.
  • Other duties may be assigned at any time at the discretion of the employee's supervisor.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years experience operating or servicing high-pressure boilers.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Basic personal computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently on reasonably complex tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a harmonious working environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical documents and procedures.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, ordiagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision in use of computer screen and reading.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • The work environment primarily is a boiler plant with its typical hazards and risk exposure.

Comments:
  • Normal work schedule is 40 hours per week, full year, four days per week, with hours and schedulearranged by the supervisor. Overtime may be required based on the needs of the department and theSchool schedule.
  • This position may be on an evening or night shift, and requires some weekend andholiday coverage.
  • Works under the general direction of a lead operator. Some independent judgment, creative effort, andresourcefulness required in making routine decisions in accordance with established policies and practicesof the department.
