Previous applicants do not need to reappy to be considered for this position.The Boiler Operator position will work in the Steam Plant Work. Work involves the operation of steam boilers for heating purposes. Employee serves as shift operator in steam plants of medium size and/or complexity or as assistant operators in the largest and/or more complex steam plants. The Steam Plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Job responsibilities include the following:
  • Monitor/operate equipment in the Steam Plant to include various boilers.
  • Starting and shutting down boilers.
  • Monitoring various operational readings and making necessary adjustments to maintain efficiency.
  • Performing water tests and adding chemicals to water as necessary, performing routine boiler maintenance.
  • Assisting in the more complex maintenance jobs.

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess all of the following:
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools and their use.
  • Mechanical, electrical, HVAC, boiler, and/or plumbing experience in a commercial/industrial setting.
  • Ability to understand and operate computers and maintenance/controls software.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in mechanical maintenance.
  • Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in mechanical maintenance.
  • Ability to accurately record indicator readings.
  • Ability to perform work independently.
  • Physical strength sufficient to perform heavy physical tasks on a periodic basis.
  • Ability to perform elementary arithmetic calculations.
Management Preferences:
  • Willingness and ability to be trained in various trades in a team environment. Strong mechanical aptitude.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 90 pounds safely. Ability to work on a ladder and pass the required physical to wear a negative pressure respirator.
  • Physically able to work in hot/cold environments and confined spaces.
