Entry Level $24.75 with Training and Progression to $39.14 for Highly Skilled Benefits Day One: Medical, Free Dental, 401K Match plus a Pension and More!The Boiler Technician position is part of the Boiler Technician Program that is designated as a Specialized Training Program to develop highly skilled employees responsible for factory power generation through the safe and efficient operation of boiler and turbine equipment. Successful applicants will be placed in the Program at a level consistent with their related experience and qualifications. Employees will advance in the Program based on training, skills, successful job performance, and completion of related assessments and license requirements. To remain in the Program employees must successfully meet all requirements necessary to advance to the Boiler Tech 4 position within their probationary period.
Job Requirements:PRE-HIRE QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED certificate is required.
- Must pass pre-hire mechanical aptitude test and basic skills tests in reading and math
- Individuals are required to submit to and successfully pass a Safety Screen that evaluates their ability to safely execute duties and tasks of this position.
- Must be able to reference, read and understand how to use SDS information.
- Must be able to obtain forklift certification.
Boiler Technician Level 6: $24.75Major Duties Include:- Cleaning in the boiler house, & coal handling areas
- Operates & troubleshoots ash removal equipment
- Operates & troubleshoots soot blowing equipment
- On the job study time
- Other duties as assigned
- Works overtime as required
- Completes SOP reading assignments as scheduled
Boiler Technician Level 5: $30.07Major Duties Include:- MN Boiler Special license required
- Successfully performs all tasks of a Boiler Tech 6, other duties as assigned.
- In addition to Boiler Tech 6 duties, the Boiler Tech 5 continues their studies toward progression to Boiler Tech 4 and accumulates time on his/her license in preparation to write the next boiler license exam
- Operates & troubleshoots coal handling equipment
- Completes SOP reading assignments as scheduled
- Severe weather-related issues such as lancing coal pits & coal stoppage issues throughout the coal system
Boiler Technician Level 4: $32.88Major Duties Include:- Boiler operator license required, at minimum, a MN Boiler 2-A license
- Performs All duties of Boiler Tech 5 & 6 levels to a level acceptable to the PG Supervisor
- Operates the DCS to a level acceptable to the PG Supervisor
- Operates the reducing stations to a level acceptable to the PG Supervisor
- Performs all water tests and properly documents the results according to ACSC guidelines and to a level acceptable to the PG Supervisor
- Completes daily low water cutoff, column, gage glass & drums testing/blowdown routines
Further Progression to Highly Skilled: BT-3 $34.49, BT-2 $36.11, BT-1 $39.14WORK ENVIRONMENT: Occasionally exposed to confined spaces, steam, and wet, humid, cold or extreme heat environments. Job tasks are occasionally performed at high elevations, on uneven surfaces, and under severe loud noise conditions (above 85 dB) in which fall and hearing protection is required. Employees may be required to enter boilers and tanks for inspections. Occasional exposure to welding fumes, gases, vapors, and particulates requires respiratory protection. Occasional exposure to vibration (power tools) and non-ionizing radiation (welding) requires anti-vibration gloves and welding shields/curtains. Must be able to drive pick-ups, manlifts, and lift equipment. Exposure to moving equipment requires lockout procedures.
PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to carry 50 pounds occasionally (lifting more than 50 pounds requires assistance). Bending and twisting is done frequently while squatting and kneeling is done occasionally, stair climbing, and ladder climbing is required. Wrist position deviates from neutral position frequently as does repetitive hand/wrist motion and use of hand tools. Occasionally push or pull on carts, chains, pulleys, and come alongs. Manual dexterity needed with frequent motor movement. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety procedures and SDS information, detailed blueprints, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
