Job Description:
Bonded Assembler Functions involve composite layup, metal bond layup, composite and structural assembly,basic sheet metal forming, and autoclave operation. Who are we? Why Ducommun? • Excellent company culture - as recognized by Newsweek's Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces • Opportunity for career growth • Great benefits including paid vacation and sick time, 401K match, Employee Stock Purchase Program, annual bonus plan, and tuition reimbursement Job Summary • Work involves operations required to complete honeycomb, composite or fiberglass bonded sub-assemblies. • Assembly and installation work involving drilling, reaming and/or riveting, and the installation of various fasteners to specifications including torque operations onstructural assemblies using specified tooling, jigs and fixtures. • Performs all operations necessary in the location,installation,assembly and integral mating ofmajor structural sub- assemblies and assemblies, working with or withoutspecialized tooling and jigs. • Builds and/or mates structures where the assembly is coordinated or built with tooling which establishes primary locations and,as necessary, lays out and locates rivet, boltand fastener hole patterns, trim lines, and parts by direct measurement fromestablishedlocations. • Loads jig and does necessary work and/or rework to complete assembly, either inor after removal from jig. Positions and lays up parts, using tooling jigs and fixtures, whenavailable. • Fabricates detail parts such as shims, splices, gussets, angles, brackets, doublers, stiffeners, patches, etc. Uses shopaids and tools to facilitate assembly and installation,as required.• Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position. Physical Demands & Work Conditions • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. • Must be able to communicate effectively. • Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. • Annual baseline hearing test is required. • Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. • Regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts. • Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles. • Noise level is usually loud. • Hearing protection is required. • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
  • Fully enclosed shoes of solid, leather construction with a steel or composite toe cap (ANSI Z41 compliant) must be worn in all manufacturing areas.
  • Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles.
Required Skills & Qualifications• High School diploma or equivalent required.• 12 - 24 months' aerospace assembly experience is preferred.• Understand tolerances and the use of precision measuring tools• Math Skills - decimals, percentages, fractions required; geometry and trigonometry preferred. • Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions, software programs and internal ERP systems.• Must qualify for any and all required certificates. • Must be able to read and interpret drawings and mylars. • Understands handling adhesive material. • Understands handling of pre-preg material. • Performs lay-up of pre-preg material and adhesives. • Understands and performs any tool preparation requirements. • Performs bagging and vacuum operations as required.This is a generic job posting for an Assembler.
