Our services are organized around threeprogrammatic pillars: a Dignity and Wellness Program provides shower, mail, haircut and medical and dental services; a Food Security Program offers hot meals and groceries; and a Long-Term Stability Program provides guidance on applications for public benefits, legal services to help with preventing eviction and mentoring for long-term personal growth.About the position Bookkeeper is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of all general ledger functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, journal entries and bank reconciliations for monthly soft closings and the annual hard close. The Bookkeeper will provide and maintain all supporting documentation and spreadsheets for the annual audit. Other accounting responsibilities include maintaining fiscal policies and internal controls to ensure organizational financial health and compliance with accounting standards necessary to facilitate POTS's mission and vision.
  • Bookkeeping: Perform POTS' accounts payable functions including recording all invoices, processing semi-monthly payroll, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring that all invoices are processed and paid on a timely basis. Additionally, perform POTS' accounts receivable and cash receipts functions including recording all pledges and payments and processing cash receipts. Act as the primary contact for vendors and staff regarding invoices.
  • Month-end and Year-end closing processes: Perform month-end and year-end closing process, including bank reconciliations, accrued and prepaid expense adjustments, receivables, and balance sheet account reconciliation. Prepare supporting documentation and generally assist the Director of Finance and Operations for all organizational audits and tax return preparation.
  • Other Financial Tasks: Maintain sound fiscal policies, procedures & controls and perform other various accounting/financial tasks as required
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree required. Related program of study such as finance, accounting, economics or business preferred.
  • 2 years experience in bookkeeping/accounting, preferably at a non-profit organization.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications, especially Excel
