Southeast Asian Development Center's (SEADC) mission is to foster a healthy, thriving, and self-sufficient Southeast Asian American community.Founded in 1977 in San Francisco's Tenderloin District, the Southeast Asian Development Center, formerly Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to lifting children, youth, and families from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam out of poverty. Our services are structured around providing low income and vulnerable Southeast Asian Americans with basic needs and skills critical to building successful futures. We provide jobs, academic support, language service, health, and wellness, promote cultural resiliency and social guidance.The Bookkeeper plays a crucial role in SEADC's financial operations, supporting the finance and administration department with accounting responsibilities. This position supports the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable, conducts financial closes, prepares tailored financial reports, and assists in budget development and monitoring. The Bookkeeper also supports payroll processing and grant contract management. They support the Finance team in ensuring the organization's compliance with accounting standards, maintain financial records, and support audit processes. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across departments while working independently on finance and accounting tasks. The Bookkeeper contributes significantly to the organization's financial health and supports its mission through accurate and timely financial management.This position is supervised by the Director of Operations and works closely with the finance team on all department goals and projects. While performing the duties of this job, the Bookkeeper will be required to work at a computer and handle paperwork.   • Support the Accountant and Operations team in maintaining meticulous financial records in the organization's accounting system (e.g., QuickBooks Online), ensuring all transactions, including donations, grants, and event-related revenue, are coded according to the organization's chart of accounts
  • Handle daily cash receipts process, including depositing checks via mobile upload, visiting the local bank, reconciling online donations, and preparing daily cash receipts listings
  • Track and report expenditures on multiple restricted grants and contracts
  • Prepare and file 1099s for 10-30 independent contractors annually, maintaining up-to-date vendor files for audit purposes
  • Collaborate with the development team to reconcile donation records between the accounting systems and Salesforce CRM on a weekly basis
  • Coordinate the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable, including processing invoices, preparing bi-weekly check runs and ACH transactions for approval, and resolving vendor discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Provide primary financial reporting support for government contracts: (a) preparing and submitting invoices and supporting documents to funders; (b) preparing project budgets and revisions to funders on an annual basis.
  • Support the Accountant to conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes in collaboration with a controller, adhering to strict deadlines for close-out reports
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports tailored for different stakeholders, including management, the Board of Directors, and vendors
  • Support the Director of Operations and controller in developing the annual organizational budget and monitor financial progress against identified performance indicators
  • Support the annual audit process, preparing detailed schedules and providing documentation to external auditors, with the goal of maintaining the organization's track record of clean auditsCompliance and Documentation (10%):
    • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into the organization's integrated finance platforms, including QuickBooks Online, Rippling Spend Management (for bill pay), and Salesforce
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and employee information in compliance with GAAP, HIPAA, and organizational policies
    • In partnership with members of the Operations team, organize and maintain digital and physical financial records, ensuring easy accessibility for the annual audit and periodic funder reviewsPayroll and Benefits Administration (5%):
      • Support Director of Operations and HR with the processing of bi-weekly payroll for 25+ employees
      • Assist HR with benefits administration and employee 401k contributions, including but not limited to:
        • Reviewing monthly insurance schedules for health, dental, and vision plans
        • Tracking and reporting on PTO accruals and usage monthly
        • Ensuring time-sensitive contribution/deduction changes are captured in a timely mannerOrganizational Context (5%):
          • Operate within a collaborative team structure, but must be comfortable working independently on financial tasks
          • Adapt to evolving funding landscapes and occasional urgent financial requests from leadership or funders

          • Attend external and internal events, training, and meetings as needed for the position.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Education:
            • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
            • Additional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) are a plusRequired Skills and Experience:
              • Minimum of 2 years in U.S.-based nonprofit or fund accounting
              • Proficiency in double-entry accounting and financial reporting
              • Experience with payroll processing and benefits administration
              • Strong command of QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
              • Experience with CRM systems, preferably Salesforce
              • Familiarity with project management platforms and online communications platforms such as Teams
              • Must have adaptability to adopt new software and technologies and participate in the development of new such systems
              • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines
              • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
              • Fluency in English with strong written and verbal communication
              • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive financial information
              • Work independently and collaboratively in a teamDesired Skills and Experience:
                • 1-2 years in U.S.-based nonprofit finance, particularly government contract billing
                • Grant management and restricted fund accounting
                • Familiarity in audit preparation and compliance
                • Experience in a hybrid office setting
