Job Title: Boring Mill OperatorReports To: Manufacturing SupervisorLevel of Work: IPosition Summary: Working form blueprints, sketches, and oral or written instructions, sets up and operates a manual boring mill. Key Results Areas by level of workLevel I: Quality - Complete and accurate work performed efficientlyProduction quality and efficiency using appropriate tools and equipment, qualified to perform special processes as needed
  • Sets up and operates machine for boring, turning, and facing castings, forging, jigs, fixtures, etc
  • May be required to improvise holding fixtures when standard fixtures do not serve.
  • Sets feeds, speeds, cut depth , and select tools.
  • Makes allowances for metal characteristics, temperature effect and shrinkage.
  • Performs in-process inspection using a variety of measuring tools and indicators.
  • Size, weight and location of work may require use of hand and power operated machine handling equipment.
  • Consistently meets customer's quality requirements and expectations.
  • Will be required to supply several personal tools such as square, scale, tape, hammer and wrench
  • Follow instructions - oral and/or written
  • Can properly read all blueprint and work instructions
  • Will provide instruction and guidance to employees assigned to assist and as required, will participate in training of welders and other employees of the department of lesser classification.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor, or his/her designate.
  • Safety & housekeeping
  • Work may require use of scaffold, ladders, forklift, and/or scissor lift.
  • Work may require the use of a crane to move part.
  • Maintains a clean work area with no clutter.
  • Practices safety at all times while at work.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures and speaks up when others are non-compliant.
  • Wears all safety equipment for area of work.

  • Requirements Qualifications: To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required. Education and Training:
    • High school GED Required
    • Trade school/BOCES in Machining Fundamentals
    Experience:
    • BOCES training or its equivalent in progressive Machine Shop assignments
    Other:
    • Must be willing to work overtime as required.
    • Minimal travel may be required

    • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is also exposed to high level of manufacturing and equipment noise. Duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment with temperature changes. Exposure to hazardous materials, fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts with vibration.
