Overview:
Direct and manage the overall daily operations of the Boys & Girls Club of The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel with the primary concern of a comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery, supervision, and training of staff (direct and indirect reports), personnel issues, management of the facility and budget, actively engaged and supporting community relations, volunteers, and membership administration.
Represents the Club to the community and builds a professional and positive image of the organization while implementing program services that advance the mission of The Salvation Army.
Responsibilities:
Supervisory Responsibilities (30%)
- Plans, coordinates, and directs all youth activities and programs for the Boys & Girls Club in collaboration with the Corps Officer to ensure alignment with the mission of The Salvation Army; Recruits, directs, and supervises all program staff and volunteers; trains and instructs employees in proper methods and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides personnel recommendations (hiring/firing and salary).
- Works to bridge participants and families into Worship, Sunday School, and other youth ministry opportunities at the Corps and in the New Jersey Division to address their spiritual needs.
- Works with the Divisional Education Director to ensure compliance with Club, State & Local licensure requirements.
- Works with the Director of AmeriCorps in Newark to recruit and provide supervision for AmeriCorps members who are working with the program.
- Plans, prepares, and administers the departmental budget; reviews and approves expenditures for the Club to ensure compliance with budget restraints.
- Administers program including, but not limited to, tuition payments, subsidy voucher payments, membership records, and monthly statistical reports in accordance with Salvation Army policy. (Management)
BGC Program Evaluation/Outcome Responsibilities (50%)
- Monitors and approves the organizations program services and assures achievement and advancement of its mission and goals.
- Establishes programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
- Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates programs, services, and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests; compiles regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation.
- Leads the strategic planning and operation of the Club, to support and advance the organizational mission of both the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and The Salvation Army.
- Maintains an environment that facilitates the achievement of targeted youth development outcomes.
- Promotes an increase in club membership by visiting school functions, parades, and festivals in the neighborhood and by participating in Salvation Army seasonal outreach programs. Develops alternative solutions to increase membership and participation goals. (Problem Solving)
- Works to increase the visibility of Club programs, services, and activities while maintaining good public relations.
- Actively recruits new members and monitors club membership to reflect the population makeup of the area served.
Program Implementation Responsibilities (20%)
- Participates in the implementation of programs and activities as needed.
- Coordinates arrangements with outside groups desiring to rent the facilities.
- Ensures the delivery of outcome-driven programs that align with the developmental needs of all young people enrolled in the Club. (Job Knowledge)
- Advertises and motivates participation in the Youth of the Year program. and encouraging youth to participate.
- Assists parents in applying for Program for Parents subsidies and all necessary follow-ups.
Other Responsibilities

Qualifications:
Requirements
- Any equivalent combination of the below education/experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Bachelors degree in Education, Child Development, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of direct experience working with school-aged children aged 5-18.
- Valid State Drivers License
- First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
- Tier 1 BGCA Certified Trainer (or ability to obtain)
- Must clear full background check.
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with computer applications (Microsoft Office)
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Knowledge of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation planning and management.
- Knowledge of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and fundraising.
- Must be willing to support and/or lead faith-based childrens activities and programming.
- Active soldier of The Salvation Army in good standing preferred.
- Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
