Role A professional lifeguard is always ready to respond quickly and appropriately to an emergency. As a professional Lifeguard, you have an ethical and legal responsibility to act in an emergency. Lifeguards need to be able to communicate effectively with patrons and with co-workers. Lifeguards use communication skills to deter and stop patrons from engaging in risky and unsafe behaviors; teach patrons how to be safe in, on, and around the water; and gather information when a patron is experiencing a first aid emergency. Essential Functions
- Perform Patron Surveillance (Close and continuous supervision of the patrons using the aquatic facility).
- Minimize or eliminate hazardous situations and behaviors.
- Enforce facility rules and educate patrons about them.
- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. Be proficient in using the Bloodborne Pathogen Cleanup kits when needed for bodily fluid spills.
- Administer First Aid and CPR, including using the Automated Defibrillator (AED) and if trained, administer emergency oxygen when needed.
- Work as a team with the other lifeguards, facility staff and management.
- Assists with Maintaining immediate pool area in a clean, safe, healthful, and sanitary condition.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Required Qualifications Education/Training/Experience:
- Must be at least 16 years old
Certification/License:
- Possess and maintain Lifeguard Training Certificate through an Approved State of MD COMAR agency. This certification must include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid (recertify every 2 years)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work with co-workers, staff, community members, and children in a professional manner
- Ability to carry out instructions, both oral and written
- Functional capability computer skills to utilize FCPS email, and google - we use google links a lot for schedules, calendars, etc. and have a shared drive for both Supervisor and Asst. Supervisor of Pool Operations.
- Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications Education/Training/Experience:
- 1 year of active Lifeguarding
Certification/License:
- Prefer Lifeguard Certification as American Red Cross, but will train to Red Cross if already certified in another approved agency.
- Certified State of Maryland Pool Operator
