Your Opportunity + Impact

The Bridge Inspection Team Lead will be responsible for performing bridge safety inspections and other structure-related inspections in accordance with NBIS and PennDOT Pub 238. This position will work closely with the Project Manager to ensure all inspections, budgets, and quality of work is being met. This role will supervise Team Assistants performing inspections, preparing reports, and ensuring completion of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspects structures in accordance with NBIS and Pub 238.
  • Responsible for scheduling and coordinating inspection crews to complete inspections, reports, and reviews.
  • Identifies deficiencies, evaluates their conditions, and properly codes the structure in i-forms.
  • Identifies structure deficiencies and properly recommends repair for those deficiencies.
  • Records and maintains records of conditions of structures using i-forms and BMS2.
  • Meets with clients (i.e. Township Supervisors, Road Masters) to advise on the condition of structures.
  • Uses hand tools to remove defective materials to properly evaluate conditions on individual parts of a structure.
  • Uses ladders, hydraulic man-lifts, and under-bridge cranes to access portions of structures that are otherwise inaccessible.
  • Uses measuring devices and non-destructive testing methods.
  • Summarizes field data and performs load rating analyses.
  • Summarizes analyses and recommends Bridge Load Posting Summary.
  • Oversees and directs sub-contractors for traffic control and rigging.
  • Directs Bridge Inspection Team Assistants to complete accurate and concise evaluations of structure conditions.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in bridge inspection as an Assistant or Team Leader.
  • Licensures/Certifications: CBSI certification required.

Must be able to travel across state as needed to complete inspections. Occasional weekly overnight stays may be required to complete inspections.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, or Microsoft office Suite Preferred
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Ability and willingness to take direction from others
  • Willingness to learn
