Job Description
The Safety & Security Specialists will work under the direction of the Brockton High School Principal, Director of Safety and Security, Associate Principal of Culture and Climate and/ or Assistant Principal in the building to which they are assigned. They will support building administration in maintaining the safety, security, and general order of the school and its locations within.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Communicates directions to unauthorized persons to leave the premises if they have no legitimate reason to be on school property and report to supervisor and/or School Police immediately.
* Reports any discipline infractions of school rules, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to the Principal, Assistant Principals and/or Director of Safety and Security immediately.
* Deters student loitering in the hallways to ensure a smooth tra?c ?ow.
* Monitors the electronic security camera activity and communicates any questionable activity via the radio system as directed.
* Checks assigned area of the building (inside and outside at the beginning, throughout and end of each day) and school grounds to prevent theft, vandalism, and other unlawful acts.
* Monitors students and visitors in and out of restricted areas including entry doors, bathrooms, stairwells, hallways, and common areas.
* Monitors bathroom access to ensure appropriate use according to Brockton High School policies
* Professional operation of two-way radio devices with other security specialists, school resource o?cers and administrators.
* Assist with the administration of cell phone control measures, such as Yondr bags.
* Observes student behavior in order to prevent any altercations or disorder.
* Render assistance within the school building as necessary.
* Help direct teacher, visitor, parent, and student tra?c ?ow throughout the school day and during loading and unloading buses at arrival and dismissal times.
* Supervise student activity on school grounds and as scheduled by administration in the building and protect school property.
* Ability to interpret and enforce Brockton Public Schools policies and procedures.
* Participates in security meetings and mandatory in-service training.
* Proficient knowledge of teenage behaviors, gang activities and at-risk behaviors
* Exercises considerable discretion in the protection and release of con?dential information and in the interpretation and administration of policies and procedures.
* Maintain hours set by the school administration.
* Maintains common outfit requirements per the contract.
* Must attend work regularly and is punctual reporting to work and returning from scheduled breaks.
* Perform all other general duties as indicated by the directives of the Principal, Associate Principal of Climate and Culture, Director of Safety and Security, and/or Assistant Principals in the building they are assigned, and policies of the Brockton School Committee.
Qualifications:
* Minimum High School graduate with prior experience working with teenage behaviors, gang activities, and at-risk behaviors preferred.
* Post High School education with prior experience working with teenage behaviors, gang activities, and at-risk behaviors preferred.
* Must be physically capable of performing duties.
* Sitting for long periods of time, standing and/or walking for long periods of time, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, walking several hours per day in hallways and outside. Must be able to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).
* Must be honest, sincere, and conscientious in his/her relationship with school personnel, students, community members, Director of Safety and Security, School Resource O?cers and in accomplishing his/her work.
* Ability to effectively communicate with adolescents and young adults.
* Bi-lingual in either Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole preferred.
* Displays strong, positive communication and interaction skills both oral and written when dealing with the public, students and sta?.
* Displays ethical and professional behavior in communicating and working with sta?, students and community members.
