Position Overview

The Carrier Relations Specialist will play a crucial role in optimizing the transportation network by managing carrier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the performance of carriers meets company standards. This role involves overseeing carrier onboarding, managing compliance, and working closely with internal teams to drive cost savings and operational improvements. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with a background in network optimization, performance reviews, and strong problem-solving abilities.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract Negotiation
    • Work with carriers to negotiate favorable terms and agreements that align with company goals.
  • Carrier Onboarding
    • Facilitate the onboarding process for new carriers, ensuring compliance with service standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing carriers to promote loyalty, collaboration, and long-term success.
  • Issue Resolution
    • Address and resolve any disputes or performance issues with carriers promptly and effectively.
  • Performance Monitoring
    • Continuously monitor and evaluate carrier performance against set benchmarks, providing feedback and driving necessary improvements.
  • Market Analysis
    • Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, competitor strategies, and identify potential new carriers.
  • Documentation
    • Ensure all carrier-related documents, contracts, and performance records are accurate, up to date, and properly maintained.
  • Reporting
    • Generate and present regular reports on carrier performance, cost savings, and other key metrics to senior management.
  • Compliance Management
    • Ensure all carriers comply with industry regulations and company-specific requirements.

    Requirements

  • Experience
    • At least 5-7 years of experience in transportation and logistics, including 3 years of broker experience.
  • Industry Knowledge
    • Deep understanding of the logistics and transportation industry, including end-to-end processes and best practices.
  • Analytical Skills
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, make strategic decisions, and provide actionable insights.
  • Technical Proficiency
    • Expertise in Excel, with experience building reports and dashboards.
    • Proficiency in using Smartsheet for project management and reporting.
  • Flexibility
    • Flexibility to accommodate business needs, including potential after-hours work when necessary.
  • Communication Skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with carriers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Negotiation Skills
    • Proven ability to negotiate favorable terms and agreements with carriers and vendors.
  • Problem-Solving
    • Strong problem-solving abilities to resolve issues promptly and maintain smooth operations.
  • Project Management
    • Experience in managing multiple projects, organizing, and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Compliance Knowledge
    • Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance requirements in logistics and transportation.
  • Relationship Management
    • Ability to build and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with carriers and vendors.
