Overview:
$30/hr!
Participating in any program that serves youth is a serious responsibility. You have the opportunity to create positive change in the lives of Upward Bound students as well as in your own. The Upward Bound Program is designed to assist first-generation college students and/or low-income high school students preparing for the post-secondary opportunities. The progress a student makes is dependent upon the support, attention and help them receives from Upward Bound staff. To ensure progress, your primary responsibility will be to provide academic assistance and encouragement to students assigned to you and to help build a sense of community in the program. Becoming a part of the Upward Bound community involves time, endurance and patience as well as developing a good rapport with students.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and facilitate training for staff (example: 2hrs training and 2hr prep/plan)
- Work 1-2 Saturdays/month during the academic year and 2-3 evenings during the summer component (will make agreed upon schedule with Director)
- Assist and counsel scholars
- Act as a constructive coach, motivating mentor, and positive role model at all times. Appropriate dress, language, and behavior are expected.
- Lead and guide scholars to finding counseling help and/or resources that will help support them beyond the program
- Complete appropriate program evaluation forms with detail and timely update notes on who was met with and basic content and updates.
- Serve as a mental health resource for scholars by enabling one on one time and group mental health activities to build strategies, awareness, and strength.
- Enforce all Upward Bound rules and regulations
- Professional Standards Expected at all times (example: Social media connecting prohibited- No Facebook Friends during or after the program)
- Serve as a resource for staff, possibly referring or directing to appropriate support and sharing resources to help.
- Monthly clinical team check in. (1hr)
- Be in communication with Director on updates, referrals, and concerns via seven hills email. Meet with Director monthly for supervision check in.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
Master's Degree Clinical Licensure
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. on occasion. Ability to perform primary job functions while sitting for extended periods of time.
