Position Title: Accountant III (Budget Accountant)

Employment Type: Full time, Academic Staff, Exempt

Reports To: The Budget Accountant will report to Controller

Pay Range: $64,000-$68,000

UW-Parkside is seeking a collaborative and skilled Budget Accountant in the office of Business Services. As a Business Services team member, this position performs advanced budgeting duties following UW system policies and procedures. The Budget Accountant needs to have a high level of knowledge and expertise, and works daily with a variety of funding sources. A wide range of job duties includes preparing and reconciling budget transactions; recommending controls and process improvements; troubleshooting errors; maintaining budget records and providing customer service to staff.

This position requires the ability to work independently, and as part of a team and to exercise sound judgment and discretion, in applying and interpreting UW financial policies and procedures.

* Develops and manages complex work unit budgets, analyzing funding sources, operational needs, budget trends, and financial commitments.

* Forecasts budget balances and recommends corrective action as needed.

* Provides budget and policy analysis for complex unit or organizational budgets containing a variety of funding sources for multiple programs.

* Develops short- and long-term budgetary projections, annual operating budgets, and program cost analyses.

* Analyzes, identifies, and makes recommendations for cost savings and funding options by conducting research on diverse institutional data.

* Conducts program and budget research, analyzes data, and prepares complex financial reports in accordance with established procedures and regulations.

* Provides guidance and direction to other analysts on budgetary analysis and reporting activities.

* Serves as a point of contact for staff providing budgetary information and guidance, answering questions, and responding to inquiries.

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

* Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or accounting

Preferred Qualifications:

* Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and budgeting practices

* Proficiency in financial software (i.e Workday, Peoplesoft) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

* 1-3 years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or accounting in a higher education setting

Physical Requirements of the Job:

* Sitting for long durations: Most work is done at a desk, requiring prolonged sitting while using a computer and reviewing documents.

* Fine motor skills: Ability to operate a keyboard and mouse efficiently for data entry and document creation.

* Ability to read documents, screens, and reviewing paperwork.

* Occasional mobility: Ability to stand, walk, and move around the office to access files, meet with colleagues, or attend meetings.

* Light lifting: May need to lift and carry small boxes or files occasionally.
