This recruitment is for a Building Attendant assigned to various City buildings and facilities to perform general cleaning and custodial functions, however, this recruitment may establish an eligibility list that may be used by other City departments. This is a 19-hour per week, limited services position.
The Building Attendant position is an individual contributor role that provides services that enable Santa Maria residents to enjoy safe, beautiful and well-maintained parks and facilities.

The City of Santa Maria is a full-service city with a Council/Manager form of government with over 700 employees and serves approximately 108,000 constituents. The City is located on the beautiful central coast of California and covers over 23 square miles. The community is a harmonious balance of coastal and agricultural lands while promoting business. WHAT WE DO
The Department of Recreation and Parks' mission is to enrich the lives of the residents of Santa Maria through quality recreation programs and services; and to provide safe and well-maintained facilities and parks, while anticipating the changing needs of the community. The department operates 234 acres of developed parkland in 28 neighborhood and community parks, part of the 1,774-acre Los Flores Ranch Park property, the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, and other community centers. The department provides programs in aquatics, youth and adult sports. It also manages the City's Urban Forest Program.
THE POSITION
These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. Building Attendants may be responsible for:
* Performing general cleaning and light custodial functions in the upkeep of assigned areas in City building.
* Cleaning restrooms; refilling soap and paper dispensers; emptying and cleaning waste containers regularly.
* Locking and unlocking doors to ensure security of buildings and related areas; activating/deactivating alarms.
* Checking for and reporting fire and safety hazards; reporting graffiti.
* Setting up tables, chairs, and other equipment for meetings and special events.
* Monitor safe use of City facilities and equipment.
* Scope of assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Director.
* Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
* Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The ideal candidate for this position will be dedicated to providing excellent customer service, will be motivated, will present a positive/can do attitude, will be a team player, will be detail & solution oriented, and will be an excellent communicator.
Spanish-speaking skills are highly desirable.
* Six months of light custodial experience.
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* Possession of a valid and appropriate Driver License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and meet City liability requirements to drive for City business.
* Requires completion of a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
* The incumbent must meet the physical requirements of the job class and have mobility, balance, coordination, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.
