Position Information The TxDOT Support Services Division is seeking a highly motivated individual for a Building Automation Systems Technology Coordinator position. In this role, you will be responsible for building automation control systems to monitor and control building wide systems, such as HVAC, lighting, and alarms. This position will serve as the Building Automation Systems Technology Coordinator for the TxDOT HQ Complex in Austin, TX. Position Description Performs skilled and complex electronics technical support work. Work involves installing, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing electronic systems and equipment. Work requires contact with departmental employees and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Essential Duties: • Assists in the maintenance, repair and installation of computer and network equipment. • Assists project managers with construction and management projects and contracts. • Trains and/or assists employees in the use of various electronic equipment; creates literature and conducts presentations as necessary. • Troubleshoots, analyzes and solves complex technical marine software/hardware and client server problems. • Assists with electrical repairs, installations, and computer wiring in departmental buildings. • Inspects contracted work and coordinates the contract process. • May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks. • Orders parts and equipment and keeps records of repairs, employee time and mileage. • Receives and processes work orders from district sections and coordinates equipment repairs. • Trains technicians in equipment repair and troubleshooting. • Writes specifications for repair parts, system components and tests equipment. • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Other Conditions: This position may be eligible to telework 2 days a week: However, if a situation develops that requires on-site assistance, the employee must report to Campus within 1.5hrs of being notified. Minimum Qualifications:Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies. Experience: 6 years experience in electronic systems, equipment installation, repair. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Preferred Qualifications: • Building Automation Certifications Competencies: Extensive knowledge of: • Fundamentals of electrical/electronic and design procedures • Electrical/electronic troubleshooting and repair techniques • Electronic circuit boards, microprocessors and chips • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes Considerable knowledge of: • Contract negotiation, development and management methods • Contract writing and specifications • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations Proficient skill in: • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external • Troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical components and subsystems • Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others • Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment • Training in a classroom, office, or field environment • Installing and maintaining equipment • Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining equipment of the trade • Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the trade • Using applicable electronic test equipment • The design and development of electronic/electrical/automated equipment • Maintaining a safe working relationship Ability to: • Work in cramped spaces (bend, stoop, crawl) and at varied heights • Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs • Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc • Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling • Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine • Talking expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading • Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment • Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures Conditions of Employment: Please click this link to read the standard conditions of employment for all positions: Standard Conditions of Employment (TxDOT)
