The Cardinal way in upholding our pillars: Accountibility Integrity Transpareceny The Building Engineer Level III is a senior-level role responsible for ensuring the maintenance[SS1] and proper operation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within a building or facility. This position requires advanced technical skills, leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of building systems to ensure optimal performance and safety. The Building Engineer Level III will supervise, train and provide guidance to junior engineers and maintenance staff. The Building Engineer exercises discretion and judgment in matters of significance to the employer. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES System Maintenance and Operation: Oversee the operation and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems. Conduct regular inspections, troubleshoot issues, and perform preventive maintenance tasks. Ensure systems are operating efficiently and in compliance with all relevant codes and regulations. Technical Expertise: Diagnose and oversee repairs to[SS2] complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing problems. Implement and manage building automation systems (BAS) for optimal energy efficiency. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and system performance. Supervision and Training: Provide leadership and guidance to junior engineers and maintenance staff. Develop and conduct training programs on safety protocols, equipment operation, and maintenance procedures. Coordinate work schedules and assignments to ensure timely completion of tasks. Project Management: Plan and oversee building improvement projects, including upgrades and renovations. Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Monitor project progress and address any issues that arise. Safety and Compliance: Ensure all building systems are in compliance with safety standards and regulations. Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed. Respond to emergencies and coordinate with emergency services when necessary. Energy Management: Develop and implement energy-saving initiatives and sustainability practices. Monitor energy usage and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements. Customer Service: Respond to tenant or occupant requests and concerns promptly and professionally. Maintain positive relationships with building occupants and address their needs effectively. Requirements Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in building systems preferred. Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in building engineering or facilities management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role. Certifications: Relevant certifications such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing licenses, and Building Operator Certification (BOC) preferred. Skills: Strong technical knowledge of building systems and operations. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Leadership and supervisory skills. Proficient in using building management software and tools. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Working Conditions: Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools when[SS3] needed to respond to emergencies or diagnose issues with building systems. Ability to climb ladders. Ability to stoop and squat for extended periods of time. Ability to lift arms above-head. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials, extreme temperatures, and confined spaces. Must be available for on-call emergencies and willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
