Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Building & Grounds Assistant is responsible for performing custodial, minor maintenance, construction, and groundskeeping tasks in and around City-operated buildings, parks, recreation areas, airports, and other public spaces. This role ensures that these facilities remain clean, functional, and safe for public use.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine custodial duties such as cleaning, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal in City buildings and public facilities.
- Assist in minor maintenance tasks, including painting, basic plumbing, and repairs to building fixtures or equipment.
- Conduct groundskeeping tasks, such as mowing, trimming, landscaping, and litter removal in parks, recreation areas, and public spaces.
- Assist with minor construction tasks, such as assembling equipment or making basic structural repairs.
- Operate light equipment and tools, such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and basic power tools, in the performance of duties.
- Ensure the safety and cleanliness of public areas, and report any potential hazards or issues to supervisors.
- Support the setup and teardown of equipment for events in City-operated facilities.
- Assist in responding to maintenance requests or emergencies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience related to janitorial, groundskeeping, or similar services.
- Skill in lifting and carrying equipment or materials relevant to the assigned work.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to maintain cleanliness and functionality of public spaces.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning supplies, tools, and techniques.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor tasks, including lifting heavy items and working in outdoor environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a municipal or public sector environment.
- Familiarity with basic maintenance tasks, such as plumbing or carpentry.
- Ability to operate light equipment, such as lawn mowers or small power tools.
Working Conditions:
This role involves both indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions. The position requires lifting, carrying, and moving equipment or materials, as well as standing, walking, and other physical activities for extended periods.
