No residency requirement. Examples of Duties
Performs seasonal shutdown, repair and maintenance on air exchange unit and boilers, water traps, filters and all pipe lines. Cleans, repairs and maintains buildings and grounds including but not limited to floors, walls, ceilings, bathrooms and locker rooms. Performs yard and building surveillance for security purposes. Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment in shop and yard in case of fire or other emergencies.Maintains, understands and monitors fire and sewer alarm systems. Maintains inventory of custodial supplies and coordinates re-ordering of supplies with Superintendent. Understands and practices basic traffic control techniques.Handles emergency phone and radio calls and takes proper action to rectify complaint/problem or contacts on-call supervisor.Hand shovels sand or salt on sidewalk crossings and intersections of streets. Replaces manhole covers and catch basin grates when missing or knocked out of place. Sets up emergency barricades in unsafe conditions or at unsafe locations and picks up debris from streets.Trains employees as assigned.Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Boiler and HVAC maintenance coursework is desirable but not required.
- Must have valid driver's license and good driving record. Valid commercial driver's license or ability to obtain one is desirable.
- Previous custodial/cleaning experience preferred.
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of building cleaning methods, materials and equipment. Good knowledge of safety measures involved in handling and using hazardous materials. Good knowledge of procedures maintaining hot water and gas steam boilers.
- Ability and skills in maintaining proper records and information. Mechanical ability to handle general maintenance on buildings and grounds. Ability to follow written or oral instructions and make reasonable basic decisions on the fly. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work required hours of the position, including evenings and weekends as scheduled.
May be required to demonstrate minimum competency of above knowledge, skills and abilities by successfully passing approved tests.Physical RequirementsAbility to perform the following activities:
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and stooping.
- Ability to reach, and climb.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.
