This role includes plan review, inspection, and observation of construction and alterations to ensure safety. Additionally, the Building Official assists in client development and maintains superior relationships with clients. This position also involves providing indirect supervision to subordinate technical personnel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the execution of assigned municipal projects.
- Ensures compliance with building criteria, develops and maintains standards for construction methods and materials, and oversees inspections of public and private buildings.
- Develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs, and recommends and administers policies and procedures.
- Coordinates uniform enforcement and inspection methodologies with building personnel, providing training on technical codes and operational processes related to municipal development and inspection.
- Offers technical advice, information, and interpretations regarding building codes, laws, and regulations to architects, engineers, contractors, homeowners, and others.
- Assists in recruiting employees to execute client contracts and coordinates their onboarding and training.
- Provides input to the Practice Leader on project staff performance.
- Mentors and coaches project staff members.
- Prepares and presents reports and studies, representing HR Green at municipal meetings.
- Attends and participates in professional association meetings, staying current on new trends and innovations in building inspection and plan checking.
- Contributes to marketing plans by identifying project opportunities and providing input for Go/No Go decisions.
- Assists in the preparation of proposals and client interviews.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, building construction, construction management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Over 5 years of progressively responsible experience in construction, design, or building inspection, including at least 3 years managing and supervising people, programs, or functions involving modern code compliance office systems.
- Proficiency in computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Knowledge of approved and modern methods, materials, tools, and safety practices in building construction.
- Familiarity with existing building and zoning codes and regulations, and the processes for addressing code violations.
- Possess ICC Certifications or similar certifications including but not limited to Code Enforcement, Plans Examiner, Residential Building Inspector and Commercial Building Inspector
