Building Service Workers play a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across the campus. They are responsible for providing daily cleaning and custodial services to all academic and administrative departments on campus. Their duties include but are not limited to general cleaning, floor treatment, refuse disposal, recycling collection, event setup, pest control, and other related functions. The BSWs are trained professionals who use modern cleaning equipment and techniques to ensure that the campus is clean, safe, and healthy. They work in coordination with other departments to ensure that all areas of the campus are clean and well-maintained. They are also responsible for maintaining inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment. In addition to their regular duties, BSWs may be assigned other responsibilities to support the department's mission and goals. They are expected to work efficiently, independently, and professionally. They are also required to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment when necessary. Overall, the BSWs play a critical role in ensuring that the campus remains a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Empty and clean trash and waste receptacles. Additionally, assist in trash removal coverage of other areas of the buildings when alone or during periods of low staff.
- Dust, mop, sweep and scrub floors and other surfaces including tables and windows, clean carpet and furniture with and without power equipment as needed. Clean and service restrooms. Spot or wash walls, partitions, doors, and other washable surfaces as needed. Operate automatic scrubbers, sweepers, and carpet cleaners as needed.
- Move furniture, supplies and equipment to and from areas as directed.
- Communicate with supervisors in-person, via email, phone and radio regarding the direction of work and schedule for floor cleaning. Complete administrative paperwork required online and in-person training.
