Job Description:
Parks and Recreation is seeking a full-time Building Services Coordinator who serves as a lead custodian for Parks and Recreation facilities. Ensures the delivery of excellent customer service by performing responsible functions in the safety, security, maintenance, and regular care of City Parks and Recreation facilities. Assists in the coordination of various services in cooperation with internal and external customers.Salary is negotiable based on qualifications and experience.The regular hours are 8:30 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday. This position requires you to be flexible for weekends and evenings occasionally.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInclude the following. Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens/building occupants may be assigned.Utilizes appropriate interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with a diverse customer base, some of which may occasionally display emotions such as confusion, frustration, or anger.Assists customers in accessing services.Monitors restrooms, hallways, and meeting rooms and performs needed custodial functions during regular business hours to ensure safe and sanitary conditions such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning, plunging, disinfecting urinals, toilets, lavatories, and other related tasks.Evaluates facility problems to determine who is responsible for handling the problem and the appropriate course of action. Reports repairs beyond capabilities of custodial workers to supervisor or work planner.Organizes and sets up space configurations (tables, chairs, computer and audiovisual equipment, etc.) for various meetings and group assemblies within facilities and for specific off-site events.Receives and responds to work requests using a variety of communication modes (e-mail, telephone, written, etc.).Retrieves supplies, equipment, furniture, etc. and delivers them to specified destination.Receives and checks off on deliveries to the facility as needed.Assembles and disassembles simple office equipment and furniture from written instructions.Organizes and participates in the relocation of offices.Leads and assists with Heavy Cleaning functions to include operation of specialized equipment in various City buildings (buffers, extractors, pressure washers, etc.).Plans, schedules, supervises and assists the work of custodians assigned to the night shift.Inspects building spaces for cleanliness and security including locking and unlocking doors.Maintains records and prepares reports concerning custodial activities.Maintains time and attendance records for direct reports.Assists the Facilities Supervisor in maintaining the inventory and distribution of cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment.Instructs and trains custodians in proper cleaning techniques; operates and trains custodians in the operation of specialized custodial equipment, such as carpet extractors, floor buffers, wet/dry vacuums, etc.Performs a wide variety of tasks during inclement weather, including but not limited to leadership of small crews in the sidewalk snow removal function.Additional Essential Duties When Assigned to Parks & Recreation FacilitiesPerforms daily safety and security checks on assigned facilities, opens and locks doors.Assists with sound and lighting equipment for events in the auditorium.Trains and instructs staff on the use of kitchen equipment.ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONSAssists in maintaining orderliness of storage areas, workgroup tool area, and parking areas adjacent to assigned buildings.Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly monitors and directs assigned staff, including full-time and part-time staff. Works with Facilities Supervisor to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance with input and approval of Facilities Supervisor; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform some of the essential functions.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) and considerable experience in light maintenance and custodial work and experience operating a computer with knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, and other Parks and Recreation software, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Valid Virginia driver's license and acceptable driving record according to City criteria. Relevant background checks completed and approved. Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.#J-18808-Ljbffr
