Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Management Branch Chief, the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent supervises twelve skilled and semi-skilled employees involved in services, maintenance, repair, grounds upkeep and minor remodeling. There are 63buildings totaling approximately 600,000square feet, plus over 130acres of compounds and grounds that must be maintained. The Buildings and Grounds Superintendent prepares correspondence and must complete various administrative functions in support of operations. With emphasis on customer service, serves as the regional (Area 2) Superintendent. The position oversees the execution of contracts with private firms for janitorial services, landscape maintenance, maintenance & repair, remodeling, and construction projects. The position is responsible for building key control, security, HVAC system management, and preventive maintenance systems. The position also authorizes funding and identifies cost saving initiatives. Additionally, the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent provides support as directed for building and equipment maintenance and repair for other National Guard facilities located throughout Building & Grounds, Area 2.

Salary Information

Starting pay is between $39.00 and $42.00/ hr.

This position is in the 81-03 pay schedule/range. A 12-month probation will be required.

This position will work Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details

Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.

State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:

Must have a valid driver's license

Minimum of two year's driving experience

Must be 18 years of age or older

Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:

Three or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past 2 years

An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months

A suspension or revocation of the driver's license

In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check.

In addition, the position requires a Common Access Card (CAC). A CAC requires successful completion of a Department of Defense investigation and an additional more in-depth federal background check, for gaining access to federal computer systems, restricted locations, or classified information.

Daily routine travel is expected. Some overnight travel is a requirement.

All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications

Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have experience with:

* Supervision of employees (performance evaluations, hiring, training, counseling/ coaching, discipline, etc.).

* Planning, coordinating, administering, and overseeing preventative maintenance, repair, and minor remodeling.

* Independently managing a program budget.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, well-qualified candidates will also have the following preferred qualifications:

* Advanced knowledge and experience in operation, maintenance, repair and installation of complicated building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

* Training and/ or experience in health and safety codes applicable to office buildings and maintenance shop buildings.

* Training and/ or experience with Facilities Operations and Maintenance procedures outlined in WIARNG PAM Regulation 420-10
