Telecommuting Eligibility: Not eligible for telecommuting In accordance with the Agreement between American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
Position Summary: As a significant member of the DPSCD's Office of Student Transportation, the Bus Attendant will provide safe and timely transportation of students to and from school and school related events. The Bus Attendant must establish and maintain a positive rapport with students, follow departmental processes and procedures and exhibit a high degree of maturity and diplomacy in dealing with parents, teachers and staff. The Bus Attendant will complete incident reports, accidents reports and attendance reports and support the mission of the department.
Minimum Qualifications: - Must be 18 years old to apply.
- Ability to work a split-shift - early morning and afternoon availability.

Essential Functions: Dismount the bus and assist the mentally or physically impaired students entering or exiting the bus. Assist, when necessary, the parent or guardian from the property boundary to the bus Lift, or assist with lifting, students on and off the bus. Maintain student rider list of all students including names and addresses. Maintain order and strict vigilance at all times to ensure the safe transport of students. Monitor and assist with seat belt usage, car seats, wheelchairs, and other applicable safety equipment. Attend workshops as needed. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Security Clearance: Internal Applicants If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
