The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
The Business Engagement and Communications Manager will foster a cooperative environment with the business community, researchers, and the Goergen Institute for Data Science. The Business Engagement and Communications Manager (BECM) will provide promotional publishing support, webmaster services, and desktop/IT support services to the Center of Excellence in Data Science. Other responsibilities include generating and disseminating information about the Center on a regular basis through newsletters, annual reports, and web page updates as well as creating and maintaining relationships with industry.
The Center of Excellence (CoE) in Data Science at the University of Rochester is a center funded by the New York State Department of Economic Development's Division of Science, Technology, and Innovation (NYSTAR). The CoE in Data Science is dedicated to supporting businesses in New York through the application of data science methods and tools that solve challenges and deliver critical insights. The NYSTAR CoE program helps drive regional and statewide economic development by supporting basic research, training, and technology development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Directly responsible for gathering publication information and creation of publication documents to include (but not limited to): annual reports; promotional materials.
* Ensures proper and timely mailing of newsletters and annual reports through constant updates to email distribution and hard copy mailing lists. Ensures proper quantities of promotional materials are readily available on an ongoing basis.
* Reach out to businesses and organizations in New York State to introduce the Center. The BECM will work with these organizations to inform them how the Center can benefit their organization.
* Identify and implement strategies for securing additional industrial contacts in New York State from new and existing industry partners and ensure integrity of relationships with existing partner companies.
* Establish connections between companies and faculty/researchers at UR and other universities in New York to facilitate collaborative work in data science that can create economic impact in New York. Introduce Companies to UR's practicum project resources in data science.
* Help match job/interesting opportunities in NYS companies and data science talent at UR.
* Represent the CoE at events including NYSTAR funded events.
* In collaboration with the ASE Web Team, maintain and improve the CoE website.
* Work directly with stakeholders to assess needs and recommend modifications/additions to website.
* Monitor various news sources (e.g. UR mailings, local/national newspapers, radio) and produce news for the aforementioned website.
* Assist in content creation; including but not limited to: photography and copy creation.
* Work directly with CoE Director to create and maintain a departmental dashboard for website.
* Create and manage the social media accounts of the CoE.
* Manage CoE databases.
* Maintain a department contact database, employee/faculty contact information.
* Keeps abreast of trends as they relate to the data science field by self-study, attending job related seminars, courses, or conferences which enhance personal development and strengthens the user service function.
* Give periodic updates to faculty (e.g., during regular faculty meetings) regarding current industry and business trends in data science.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in related technical discipline and 4 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Experience with Adobe's Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator); an Email Marketing System (Mail Chimp or Constant Contact); as well as a Content Management System (Cascade, WordPress, Drupal) required.
