Vortex Optics is looking for a talented individual with exceptional analytics skills to join our Information Technology team. As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will be responsible for working with various departments to create reports, dashboards, and other visualizations that transform data into insights to support data-driven decision making. You will also be a key business partner by gathering requirements and ensuring that the analytical solutions meet business needs. What You'll Be Doing Reporting and Analytics:

  • Support fact-based decision making by creating a variety of analytical tools (reports, scorecards, dashboards, etc.) and leveraging enterprise tools, standard formats and agreed upon terminology/definitions
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and data analysis, as needed
  • Create and maintain documentation including requirements, design and help documents
  • Build out and maintain a comprehensive report catalog
  • Maintain a solid understanding of the data and reporting tools available within internal applications and understand how they fit into the overall reporting environment (example: ERP)
  • Stay current with reporting tools and trends and leverage them to advance Vortex's analytics capabilities
Business Partnership:
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and translate business requirements into technical specifications
  • Provide input into the analytics roadmap to ensure the proper sequencing and prioritization of tasks to support business reporting needs
  • Educate end users on the available data and how our analytics tools can support their needs
  • Assist business partners in interpreting data and using it to identify trends and patterns
  • Champion the use of analytical tools across the organization by identifying opportunities to expand business intelligence
Data Management:
  • Help to identify and resolve data issues to help maintain high levels of data quality
  • Assist in defining data elements in the data dictionary and business glossary
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and data security policies, including user access
  • Review and recommend improvements to data model designs
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, you may be asked to perform other duties as assigned. Requirements
  • 3 years of experience in a data analysis, business intelligence or a similar data related role
  • 3 years of experience creating data visualizations and analytics tools, preferably in Power BI
  • Ability to leverage strong technical skills, including SQL, to extract and analyze data
  • A deep understanding of analytics and data analysis processes, concepts and best practices
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to partner with key end users to gather requirements and create actionable plans
  • Adaptable, open to change and able to work in ambiguous situations and respond to new information or unexpected circumstances
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects
  • A strong focus on the customer experience, both internal and external
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science or related field
  • Experience with unstructured data sets from a variety of sources
  • Experience with data architecture and data modeling
  • A strong understanding of statistical analysis and scripting tools, such as R or Python
  • A strong understanding of data management concepts and processes
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and advanced analytics
