Job DescriptionDescriptionThe Office of Institutional Research at Saint Mary's College is hiring a Business Intelligence Specialist. This position is responsible for supporting data-driven decisions across campus. A variety of data handling experience and statistical knowledge, as well as an eye for detail, are vital for success in this role. The Business Intelligence Specialist will also possess a willingness to learn and troubleshoot while building new relationships. There will be opportunities to work with senior leadership, faculty, administrators, and external vendors, as well as mentorship of student employees/projects.We encourage anyone interested in the position to apply, even if you do not have all of the skills mentioned. Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Social Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, or another relevant field.
- Must be detail-oriented, and have the ability to identify errors and recommend clarifications.
- Demonstrated experience with SQL and report writing languages in extracting data.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse campus constituencies to identify information needs and create custom reports to meet those needs.
- At least 3 years' experience working with statistical software to manipulate, analyze, and report on data including data visualization (e.g.,SPSS/R/Python/Tableau/Microsoft Power BI).
- Ability to learn new data systems and coordinate data from multiple systems to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationships between various data.
- Advanced skill level using relational databases, spreadsheets, word-processing and presentation computer programs to translate quantitative and qualitative data into usable information for planning, assessment and other purposes.
- Demonstrated competence in research processes, including data collection, analysis, standardized/statistical reporting, use of statistical methods, and use of software pertinent to institutional research (e.g., Qualtrics, cloud-based survey/course evaluation platforms).
- At least 2 years' experience in survey design, administration, and analysis and in reporting data.
- At least 3 years project management skills, keeping within scope, stakeholder negotiation, management of dependent tasks, balancing and prioritizing multiple projects.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, and ability to work in group settings.
- Knowledge higher education issues and ability to conduct/supervise appropriate literature searches or secondary research collection to obtain information to support benchmarking and strategic planning.
- Knowledge of qualitative data gathering methodologies such as focus groups and moderating.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of standard institutional research practices in a liberal art setting.
- Experience creating efficient processes to support routinizing data management tasks and regular data reports/requests.
- Experience working with system migration
- Knowledge of and experience in complex data analysis and modeling.
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Reporting
- Experience with Argos Reporting Platform preferred.
