Metal distribution company is looking for an Business leader to help establish a Youngstown, OH start up facility. We are looking for someone to lead the operations of the business in Youngstown. You will be supported by a respected industry leader who manages the supplier and customer relationship and who previously handled the operations. There is a small team of labor and an entire management and support team of a parent company also located in Youngstown able to lend support. This small metals distribution business imports steel bar products from China in containers & distributes them in job size lots to customers around the USA/Canada. The business has been up and running for 4 years, is profitable and has a good core of customers. Newly located in Youngstown from the east coast to be closer to the parent operation, the Business Leader is responsible for the daily operations. About 70% of job is inventory management (internal inventory and purchasing from China)/supply chain management (shipping from China to USA and internal US moves) as well as Scheduling & Admin (order entry, financial reporting, shop support of the labor team). The balance of your time (30%) is all the unexpected stuff that comes in a start up…from showing customers around, working with QC, customer auditors to general repairs and maintenance…really whatever it takes. The job would be 100% in person/onsite in Youngstown. This is not in any way a work from home or remote role. As a start up, you need to be there building the business. We hope that you are a skilled hands-on leader able to perform all daily business activities needed to support an operation and small operations team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on distribution experience, be efficiency minded and proven success in working with multiple departments for maximum productivity. This person will lead the facility human resources, operations, and sales administration. Objectives of this role Create, develop, and maintain an efficient plant facility. Develop, implement, and maintain operational processes and procedures. Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance & safety protocols. Maintain and manage inventory, including ordering materials from foreign sources. Track staffing requirements, hiring new employees as needed. Handle customer requirements, shipping, and handling Responsibilities Hire, Lead, motivate, and support a small operations team to support business. Manage metrics to achieve productivity targets and deliver excellent customer service. Oversee materials and inventory. Conduct budget reviews and report cost plans to upper management. Required skills and qualifications. Two or more years of proven success in an operations leadership role Knowledge of business software and an aptitude for learning new applications Overhead crane, forklift, materials handling and machining would be great. Preferred skills and qualifications operations leadership, business leadership, or personnel management Strong knowledge of software programs, including excel, payroll processing, EDI process.
