Founded in 1968, Hope Community, Inc. is a community-based, non-profit affordable housing organization based in East Harlem. Hope Community enriches the lives of the people who live and work in East Harlem and surrounding neighborhoods through economic development, cultural arts, and social services partnerships.Hope Community owns and manages -1,250 units of affordable housing and -30 commercial units; develops new affordable housing and rehabilitates existing affordable housing; and provides social services and community programming in East Harlem.Hope Community utilizes a hybrid work environment, with staff in our East Harlem office 3 days per week and remote 2 days per week.About the Business Manager RoleThe Business Manager works closely with the Executive Director and the Director of Operations. The Business Manager will engage East Harlem business owners in the ongoing initiatives of the recently formed El Barrio campaign.Key Responsibilities of the Role
- Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the Visit el Barrio Project: approve the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies. Approve expenditures and implement budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary.
- Develop strategy and lead in the development of East Harlem Merchant Association.
- Serve as the initial point of contact between Hope Community, merchants, and funders.
- Identify and analyze issues, patterns, and trends in requests for services and products.
- Coordinate community planning meetings and corridor improvement events.
- Refer resources to businesses and address East Harlem business needs.
- Attract small businesses, retailers, and produce vendors to the area.
- Establish and maintain relationships with various small businesses in East Harlem.
- Stay up to date on new social media tools, best practices, and how other organizations and companies are using them, so that the company can contribute to being an early adopter of these technologies.
- Assist in concert with other Hope departments in the management of economic development activities; develop strategies to assist East Harlem in business growth.
- Access and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement; direct and implement changes.
