Job Description
Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global leader in the field of scientific solutions, is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Buyer II to join our team in Rochester, NY. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills, with knowledge of SAP and Power BI being an advantage. We are seeking someone with excellent negotiation skills, experience in the manufacturing industry, and a solid understanding of procurement for direct materials. It would be highly desirable for the candidate to have expertise in either Packaging Procurement. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently are critical for this role. Additionally, the candidate should have a deep understanding of manufacturing workflows, a sense of urgency, and the ability to identify and lead cost savings projects to drive productivity within the organization. Responsibilities:
* Manage procurement activities for direct materials, specifically focusing on Packaging Procurement
* Apply strong Excel skills to analyze data, create reports, and assist in decision-making.
* Use SAP for procurement and inventory management.
* (Optional) Familiarity with Power BI, creating visualizations, and analyzing data.
* Apply negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing and terms with suppliers.
* Foster collaboration with diverse teams and colleagues across various departments and geographical locations (e.g., Category Management, Material Planning, Finance, Engineering, Quality, Value Streams) to ensure project goals are met.
* Work closely with the global supply base to ensure a reliable supply chain.
* Understand bill of materials (BOM) and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
* Support New Product Introduction (NPI) procurement activities.
* Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in procurement records and documentation.
* Work independently and with little supervision, managing priorities effectively.
* Identify and lead cost savings projects, driving productivity improvements.
* Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the exploration of better solutions every day.
* Demonstrate a strong work ethic and willingness to grow within the organization.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
* Proven experience as a Buyer or in a similar procurement role within the manufacturing industry, with expertise in Packaging Procurement being a plus.
* Strong Excel skills, with the ability to analyze data and generate reports.
* (Optional) Experience with SAP or other procurement and inventory management software.
* (Optional) Familiarity with Power BI, creating visualizations, and analyzing data.
* Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain supplier relationships.
* Understanding of bill of materials (BOM) and technical drawings.
* Deep understanding of manufacturing workflow and its impact on procurement.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
* Strong sense of urgency and commitment to meeting deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $54,000.00-$81,000.00.
