Job Description:
Buyer The Buyer is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, or equipment for the business. This position requires extensive research, contract negotiation with suppliers, inventory management, evaluation of quality goods, and sticking within a budget. Reports to: Supply Chain Manager Location: Branford, CT FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Place purchase orders based on requisitions and MRP requirements. Ownership of POs from quoting through delivery.
  • Member of cross-functional new product development team. Support NPI work, including identifying new suppliers for new materials introduced, sourcing prototyping and materials, and other new-product-development/new-product launch initiatives.
  • Responsible for interaction with Sales Administrators for material availability on new orders.
  • Understand & control predetermined inventory targets for each month and maintain those targets.
  • Interact with supervisors, production managers & business unit managers on material statuses and production planning issues.
  • Place orders for offshore supplies in Mexico and Costa Rica.
  • Identify and recommend cost savings and improvement opportunities.
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining control of all shop floor supplies and floor stock materials.
  • Coordinate with Quality on any activity related to vendor non-conformities.
  • Maintain supplier relationships and track sub-tier performance. Present information to management and suggest action items for improvement.
  • Perform inventory transactions from the shop floor to maintain inventory integrity.
  • Ensure compliance to all quality / operating policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Participate in training as required.
  • Must be able to travel both international and domestic up to 10%
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of contract negotiation, project management, purchasing and supply chain management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities to meet internal & external customer demands.
  • Must be highly organized, a self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Supply Chain. Professional-level experience may substitute for the degree as appropriate.
  • At least 3 years experience in purchasing and/or procurement.
  • Experience with international purchasing and shipping/export processes strongly preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing production planning or buying/purchasing in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience identifying and sourcing materials based on blueprints and other technical documents.
  • Experience utilizing manufacturing or ERP software required - Visual a plus
  • Demonstrate proficiency with MS Software packages including but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • A erospace industry experience preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Typical office environment, with controlled temperatures.
  • May be exposed to routine noise from manufacturing plant floor.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift at least 20 lbs, unaided.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend, and grasp equipment, tools, or inventory.
  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary when working in areas on the manufacturing plant floor
