BE SOMETHING GREATER.Role Overview:The Buyer will manage the relationships of suppliers for assigned commodity categories. The incumbent will lead cost saving initiatives within assigned commodity categories, including lead-time and inventory reduction. This individual will provide management with data to assist in determining commodity and material advancements, pricing, and availability that may influence Bemis Quality of Service. Specific Responsibilities:
  • Perform purchasing functions for assigned commodities; monitoring and sourcing and provide departmental back-up as needed.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers to obtain the best terms of purchase, including discounts, shipping, and payment terms.
  • Effectively utilize systems and software tools required to manage the sourcing of products and components.
  • Monitor raw material purchasing variances, lead-times, inventory turns, and rejections for assigned commodities.
  • Communicate with manufacturing, engineering, and finance to ensure working knowledge or processes and resolve purchase order problems, including receiving errors and invoicing discrepancies.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and purchasing practices through continuous professional development and networking.
  • Participate in projects and e-commerce activities
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply chain, Business, Engineering Program highly preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Additional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) a strong plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in purchasing.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Solid analytical and problem solving/resolution skills, able to address issues that arise with suppliers.
  • Knowledge of specific regulatory and compliance requirements in the Manufacturing Industry.
  • Able to organize and prioritize tasks and function well in a deadline driven environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent math and computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Indoor office setting, controlled temperature.
  • 40+ hours per week.
  • Minimal lifting, up to 20lbs. Minimal bending and reaching.
  • May be required to enter manufacturing operations where safety toe shoes, proteectiv3 eye wear, and hearing protection is required.
