The general role of the Cable Installer Technician is to travel to residential homes for service calls. This person must be reliable and organized to install equipment, inspect and troubleshoot cable equipment, and set up internet networks. This position will provide written and verbal instructions to customers on how to operate systems, remote controls, and other equipment, as well as document all tasks performed at each service appointment.

What You'll Do:
  • Install, maintain, and repair cable infrastructure
  • Perform maintenance on existing cabling systems
  • Safely perform work in communication spaces
  • Operate basic hand tools (Cordless Drill, Hammer, Wrench, Socket Set)
  • Test newly installed or relocated cables according to company specifications
  • Identify and removing redundant cabling
  • Install televisions, routers, and internet technology devices
  • Troubleshoot issues with the cable network
  • Install cable support structures such as j-hooks, cable racks, and innerduct
  • Ensure all cables are tied and bundled in a secure and organized manner
  • Utilize mobile customer software for job schedules, work orders, tracking, etc.
  • Assist with worksite housekeeping duties and equipment inspections
  • Complete paperwork such as timesheets, checklists, vehicle inspection reports, and service orders
  • Provide roadway flagging support for the operation to include obtaining Flagger Certification
  • Learn to recognize general safety hazards and electrical-specific hazards such as missing and or degraded parts and hardware
  • Train and mentor lesser experienced Cable Installer Technicians
What You'll Bring:
  • 1-2 years experience as a cable technician preferred
  • Valid drivers license is required
  • Basic knowledge of fiber optics and coax applications and network infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics, science, and electrical systems preferred
  • Ability to install internet and television equipment and cabling both in home and outside (underground, on poles, etc.)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and navigate various customer service situations
  • Skilled in interacting with clients/homeowners in a friendly and professional manner
  • Proficient in independently diagnosing, troubleshooting, and fixing any problems that may arise
  • Ability to identify independent colors and learn color codes
  • Willingness to train on company-specific technical equipment
  • Ability to work at heights on a ladder
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Proficient with utilizing mobile apps for work duties
  • Experience operating small equipment preferred (i.e., forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer, etc.)
  • Leadership ability preferred

Working Conditions

  • Stand or kneel for extended periods of time
  • Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl
  • Climb poles; carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 65 pounds, as well as work with confidence on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 60 feet in the air to perform tasks in communications spaces
  • Work indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditions
  • Perform work in confined spaces
  • Able to walk long distances
  • Able to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance
