Our customer is seeking a Cable Puller Technician to support a DoD customer in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This role involves providing Layer 1 infrastructure support, including the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cabling systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cabling standards, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Key Responsibilities:
- Layer 1 Infrastructure Support: Provide Layer 1 infrastructure throughout the PNS shipyard, including Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) cabling, fiber, copper network drops, and wireless access points.
- Cable Installation: Install various cable types such as CAT5e, CAT6, coaxial cables, and single and multi-mode fiber optic cables to BICSI standards.
- Problem Analysis and Resolution: Analyze network issues related to Layer 1 infrastructure, create tickets, and work with the team to resolve problems. Redirect unresolved issues to the Team Lead when necessary.
- Multi-tasking and Adaptability: Handle multiple tasks effectively and adjust priorities based on project needs.
- Cable Installation and Maintenance: Install, terminate, label, test, and document backbone and horizontal cable implementations in accordance with BICSI standards. Install cable pathways, including cable trays, EMT, inner duct, J-hooks, D-rings, and wire mold.
- Support Submarine/ Barge Operations: Assist in the installation, removal, and reinstallation of copper and fiber optic cabling for submarine/barge moves.
- Network Appliance Installation: Install and mount network appliances, network cabinets, grounding systems, and wireless access points.
- Site Surveys: Conduct surveys and prepare final site survey reports for completed installations.
Qualifications:
- Certifications:
- BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) or BICSI Installer 2 (INSTC/F) Certification within 90 days of onboarding.
- ARC Flash and Confined Spaces training within 90 days.
- OSHA 10 and EM 385 Safety certified within 90 days.
- Experience:
- Experience terminating single-mode and multi-mode fiber with LC, ST, SC connectors and using a fusion splicer.
- Proficient in using Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) for testing optical loss.
- Familiarity with tools like hammer drills and core drills.
- Ability to read and create network drawings in Microsoft Visio.
- Knowledge of OSP and ISP cabling installation standards.
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to see and distinguish different colors.
Additional Requirements:
- Must hold or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Must be willing to support DoD operations on-site in Portsmouth, NH.
