Job Description:
Responsible for cage sanitation, physical plant maintenance, safe operation of sanitation equipment, observation and reporting of abnormal conditions in cage-wash facility, and supervised assistance in animal husbandry procedures. This position is considered an essential service requiring weekend and holiday work hours, and involves daily exposure to laboratory animals and their waste products. Essential service staff are required to maintain basic university operations during scheduled and unscheduled work closures due to emergencies, events or other situations (including inclement weather, natural or man-made disasters, pandemics, etc.).Required Education:High School Diploma or equivalentRequired Experience:1+ years experience in a related position involving operation of mechanical washers in animal facility.Preferred Experience:1+ years experience performing repairs and maintenance of cage washing equipment.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Ability to operate standard office equipment. Must be able to lift and carry up to 55 pounds routinely. This position is highly physical and involves standing for long periods, grasping and holding items, reaching above shoulder; pulling & pushing heavy items; some regular crouching, bending and kneeling, and working in wet areas. Understand and follow appropriate SOPs,, safety procedures (Including wearing personal protective equipment). and quality assurance guidelines. Well-organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to changes.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Certification.In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $32.972. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
