The Stamford JCC Inclusion Department is currently recruiting senior high school and college students for summer job employment in our Hand in Hand program. Hand in Hand, provides children grades Pre-K - 8 the opportunity to participate in a summer camp environment in a supportive setting. We work with children of all abilities to reach their fullest potential, both developmentally and interpersonally. Hand in Hand counselors shadow 2 campers with disabilities in the summer and help them with camp activities and building relationships. We are looking for students who have had experience working or volunteering with children who have disabilities and who genuinely enjoy working with diverse children in a recreational setting.Duties of Position:* All staff members are needed from 8:15 am-4:00 pm from June 24th - August 2, 2023.* Attend staff training prior to camp starting (June 17th-21st ( no training on June 19th).* Counselors would help reinforce the skills and help children integrate into the camp community successfully throughout the day.* Counselors must communicate each day to the parents and the Hand in Hand Director, a review of what each camper has done for the day.* Hand in Hand counselors must be 18 years or older and have at least 1 year of experience working with children with disabilities.Minimum Qualifications:* Enthusiastic Seniors in High School or College Students* Passion for Making a Positive Impact: A genuine desire to positively influence the lives of campers and contribute to their growth and development.* Leadership Skills: While not explicitly stated as a prerequisite, the opportunity to develop leadership skills implies that candidates should possess or be willing to cultivate leadership abilities during the camp experience.* Comfortable with Outdoor Activities: Candidates should be comfortable spending extended periods outdoors, engaging in activities like games and swimming.* Ability to Work in a Team: Given the emphasis on community building and working in a warm and welcoming environment, candidates should be team-oriented and able to collaborate effectively with colleagues.* Responsible and Reliable: As camp counselors play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of campers, candidates should demonstrate responsibility and reliability in their duties.These requirements reflect the nature of the role and the qualities needed to be successful in providing a positive and engaging summer camp experience for all campers.Salary:Under $25,000Agency Information:The Stamford Jewish Community Center is a cultural, educational and recreational center, offering exceptional programs, classes and special events designed to enrich the mind, body and spirit.
