DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Health Center Director, the Camp Nurse will assist the Head Nurse with the general operation of the Health Center, focusing on the medical care and well-being of our Campers and Staff. They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with the Head Nurse to ensure the safety of campers and staff.
- Have a working knowledge of drugs and medications; safeguarding camper's and staff prescription medications. Assist with administering medications at the prescribed dosage and time.
- Develop a collegial working relationship with a team of nurses on staff as well as volunteer physicians.
- Work together to create a total support system of health care for the camp community to promote wellness; which includes physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
- Participate twice daily with sick call (camp clinic).
- Assist volunteer camp physicians as needed.
- Assist with medication administration as needed.
- Participate in nurse rotations throughout the week, such as infirmary and night nurse duty. All nurses participate in these rotations.
- Accompany sick/injured campers or staff to hospital/medical appointments as needed.
- Maintains and documents accurately in campers/staff medical chart.
- Successfully triage, assess and care for anyone who comes to the health center requiring assistance.
- Maintain lab according to our Health Department contract and any other vendor.
- Effectively communicate by initiating & returning parent phone calls, documenting each visit and phone call according to our policy.
- Complete worker's comp forms for staff members and incident reports for campers per policy.
- Responds to urgent care needs accordingly.
- Assist in the daily upkeep of the Camp health center, cleaning and sanitizing to protect health and safety of camping community
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Rotate Night duty as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a minimum of a Registered Nurse with an active North Carolina Nursing License or license that is endorsed by the NLC.
- Minimum 1-3 years experience as a Nurse required. Pediatric experience preferred.
- Must have an active CPR certification.
- Possess strong assessment skills. Ability to adapt to different environments and work on a dynamic team of nurses from diverse clinical backgrounds.
- Must have good organizational, communication and documentation skills.
- Should be a caring individual who possesses a willingness to participate in camp.
- Able to work in potentially high-stress or emergency situations and be able to work variable and overnight hours.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
