Summary:
The Part-Time Campus Safety Officer (CSO) position at Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship is an essential and multifaceted role. The CSO is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure campus environment by patrolling the interior campus building and exterior grounds, responding promptly to incidents and emergencies, and assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors with their safety and security needs. Reporting directly to the Director of Institute Operations, the CSO supports efforts to implement preventive measures and emergency responses while delivering excellent customer service to ensure the well-being of the campus community.
Additionally, the CSO will enforce campus policies, provide front desk coverage to ensure visitor policy compliance, monitor surveillance systems, respond to alerts, and provide coverage during institute-sponsored events. This position requires collaboration with the VP of Operations, AVP of Technology, Building Facilities, and others to identify and mitigate potential safety and security risks. The CSO must maintain confidentiality and a high ethical standard, demonstrate cultural sensitivity, and interact effectively with a diverse campus population. The role also involves working collaboratively with other departments, local law enforcement, and emergency services.
The ideal candidate excels in customer service, builds relationships effectively, and exhibits strong judgment and decision-making abilities. They should have a proactive approach to fostering a culture of safety awareness on campus. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for effective incident reporting and community interaction. The candidate must maintain composure in high-pressure situations and be proficient in using technology-driven security solutions to protect the campus community, including access controls and surveillance technologies that prevent unauthorized access and safeguard valuable resources. Experience in emergency preparedness, incident response, and crisis management is essential.
The physical requirements for this role include the ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, as well as the capability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions. Although this role is a part-time position, the ideal candidate is someone with flexible availability, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
