Salary: $33,233.00 - $37,387.00 AnnuallyLocation : RivertonJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202300115Department: Administrative ServicesOpening Date: 12/20/2024Description Position SummaryThe Campus Security Officer is responsible for assisting the Campus Security Director in the development and successful execution of a comprehensive campus safety and security program to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations while enhancing quality in the safety and environment of the campus community. Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in the direction of the day-to-day operations of the Campus Security program including providing training, creating and overseeing standard security protocols, and building a cohesive team of service-oriented professionals within a student-centered culture.
  • Assists the Campus Security Director in providing a reasonably safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors by establishing security methods and implementing prudent risk management strategies, working to support all campus programs related to welfare and safety, responding to security concerns and emergency situations, conducting orientations for the college community with respect to safety and security policies and procedures, providing on-call coverage in the event of an emergency and staying abreast of current industry standards.
  • Assists the Campus Security Director in maintaining a collaborative and coordinated effort with Riverton, Lander, and Jackson Police Departments along with Fremont County Sheriff's Department and other emergency response personnel. Assist area agencies, including law enforcement, fire department, etc. in responding to events, emergencies, etc. on the CWC Main Campus, Equine Center, Lander, Alpine Science Institute, Dubois and Jackson Outreach Centers. Assist emergency services personnel as required and maintain a security presence when reasonable concerns are present to college personnel, students and community members.
  • Assist in the education of employees, students and visitors regarding safety and security while using campus facilities through periodic presentations.
  • Assists Campus Security Director in overseeing the technical applications relevant to safety and security systems including administering alarm monitoring and door locking systems, issuing ID cards to employees, students and guests, setting access levels for key card entry systems, and assisting in the overall use of technology to help aid in maintain a safe environment.
  • Assists the Campus Security Director in operating and maintaining the Rustler Alert system and mass communication system, Altertus.
  • Assists the Campus Security Director in maintaining and managing crisis response and emergency preparedness plans and initiatives campus-wide including coordinating drills.
  • Work with Physical Plant personnel to identify and prioritize facility maintenance, repairs and renovations that affect the safety and security of the campus community.
  • Assists the Campus Security Director in ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Clery Act. This would include investigation of Title IX cases that involve Domestic Violence, Stalking and Sexual Assault.
  • Assists the Campus Security Director in completing and verifying accuracy of Clery report.
  • Assists the Campus Security Director in training Campus Security Interns, students and staff in Safety, Active Shooter and other related areas.
  • Assists the Campus Security Director in managing student disciplinary situations, including investigations, documentation, and follow up as required.
  • Become familiar with campus residents, staff, and routine visitors.
  • Patrol College's housing, main campus buildings, grounds, Equine Center, and Lander Outreach Centers, making general observations, enforcing College polices, providing escorts and responding to events and/or emergencies as appropriate. Record actions and observations in written reports.
  • Attend department and campus meetings as required.
  • Operate within the guidelines set forth in the College's policies, procedures and practices.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned by the Campus Security Director.
  • Typical Qualifications Position Specifications and Minimum Qualifications Education
    • Wyoming P.O.S.T. Police Officer Standards Training certified police officer or retired officer separated in good standing.
    Experience
    • Four (4) years of experience in law enforcement experience or security, Security or community policing in a higher learning environment or other related industry.
    Licenses/Certifications
  • Valid Wyoming Driver's License with a good driving record and be insurable by the College's insurance carrier.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR, or ability to be certified within 90 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive local, state and federal criminal background screen.
  • Has met all minimum annual Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy standard requirements for Wyoming Peace Officers Firearms Training and such training was conducted by a certified firearms instructor. Must qualify two times per year.
  • Trained (or ability to be trained) in non-violent crisis de-escalation techniques.
  • Trained (or ability to be trained) in POST Custody and Control.
  • Trained (or ability to be trained) in the use of OC aerosol pepper spray.
  • Equivalency Statement
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Knowledge of criminal laws and ordinances applicable in a community college environment.
  • Knowledge of blood borne pathogen standards.

  • Specific knowledge of Clery Act requirements (or ability to learn with 90 days of hire, including Title IX violations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of word processing, database, and presentation applications, specifically Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Colleague, and NOVA.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow CWC policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ability to relate in a professional, helpful manner and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
  • Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to be accountable for decision making and for being dependable and reliable.
  • High level of personal integrity and ability to sustain confidentiality
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, late night hours, weekends, and holidays - can be on-call 24 hours a day

  • Level of Supervision
    • This position operates under the general supervision of the Director of Campus Security.

    Equipment Used
    • Standard office equipment including personal computer, calculator, fax machine, phone, scanners, copy machine and telephone. Motor vehicle. College issued semi-automatic pistol, bullet proof vest, AR15 rifle, OC Spray, mountain bike, and an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).
    Physical Requirements
    • Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and reaching. Tasks require standing for long periods of time and ability to climb stairs. Regular talking, hearing and seeing required to perform some essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and ride a bicycle.
    Environmental Conditions
    • Work is performed in a variety of conditions including indoor and outdoors. Tasks require the ability to frequently lift up to 75 pounds. Work involves frequent exposure to various weather conditions including heat, rain, snow and cold temperatures. Work requires evening and weekend hours.
