Job DetailsJob LocationHampden-Sydney College - Hampden Sydney, VADescriptionHampden-Sydney College has an immediate opening for a Campus Utilities Technician. Reporting to the Campus Utilities Supervisor, the Campus Utilities Technician is responsible for supporting the College mission by performing duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of multiple utilities serving the College and local community. Technician's primary responsibility will be the campus' underground water and sewer system, but work may also include storm water management, secondary electrical services, and propane.DutiesChampions the Facilities Management Department goal of being ranked the #1 most beautiful college campus in America.Aids in the improvement of the campus underground water/sewer system to include the installation of new water and sewer distribution lines and building service connections.Identifies and repairs utility system leaks, breaks, and blockages. Performs emergency repairs to restore service quickly.Conducts routine inspections of the utility systems. Cleans and maintains manholes, catch basins, sewer lines, and storm water lines.Flushes the water system and tests fire hydrants to ensure operation. Installs new hydrants and flush points as needed.Assists in the management and operation of multiple propane distribution plants. Monitors propane levels and assists with the installation and repair of propane lines.Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, mini-excavators, and trenchers for digging and trenching operations.Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground secondary electrical service. Work with the utility service provider in the installation and maintenance of the campus primary service. Reports outages to service providers as needed.Assists the Water/Sewer Operators in the monitoring and maintenance of the treatment systems as needed.Assists with the maintenance and management of onsite power generation systems. Assists with the deployment of portable generators during extended outages.Ensures all work conforms to local, state, and federal codes and guidelines.Works weekends, after-hours, and on-call nights and weekends to respond to emergency situations as needed.Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.QualificationsHigh school diploma, along with minimum of 3 years of previous related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
