The Community Canopy program focuses on engagingthe community and promoting environmental stewardship to ensure its impact extends beyondits participants.This opportunity is well-suited for individuals interested in pursuing a career in urban forestry orrelated fields, particularly those who may require additional experience or knowledge to enterthe job market. This extensive year-long program provides practical scientific training,assistance in job preparedness, and chances to network within Baltimore's environmentalsector. Civic Works will use existing connections and resources to help place the employees atthe end of the term. You will leave with sought-after certifications and the expertise to enter theworkforce above entry-level. We seek curious and motivated individuals who are excited aboutworking outdoors with their hands and interested in learning in a classroom setting.QualificationsRequirements- Driver's license or ability to acquire one within the year- Interest in joining a forestry or forestry-related career- Flexibility and willingness to learn- Must be able to move equipment weighing 50 pounds or more- Must be able to stand and/or bend for long periods and navigate any terrain- Reliable transportation to and from work- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions daily- Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day- Good verbal communication skillsPreferred- Experience driving trucks with trailers- Experience working outdoors- Ability and willingness to engage with the community- Good written communication skillsResponsibilitiesClassroom Setting- Sit and learn with hands-on and lecture-style teaching- Engage in group work and complete projects- Be an advocate for urban treesField Work- Manually plant and care for trees- Prune and water young trees- Manually remove invasive species- Learn the equipment and safety procedures- Wear proper PPE at all times- Maintain tree nursery- Maintain tools and equipment- Engage with volunteers during eventsIn accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rightsregulations and policies, this organization is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race,color, national origin, sex, age, disability, and reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.(Not all prohibited bases apply to all programs.)
