*** To be considered for this position candidate must be either serving permanently in the Assistant Urban Designer title, or be reachable on the upcoming Civil Service Exam List #2039, or be eligible under the 55a program. ***The Office Livable Streets (OLS) is tasked with prioritizing strategic planning, community engagement, research, policy, design, implementation, and long-term management. Their goal is to create streets that are livable, supporting safety, accessibility, inclusion, resiliency, active modes, community cohesion, and economic vitality citywide. Additionally, they aim to enhance New York City's pedestrian, bicycle, and micromobility networks, providing comfortable, connected, green, and reliable transportation options across the five boroughs. They place special emphasis on Priority Investment Areas, mode shift, and reimagining streets.OLS is seeking a motivated Capital Coordinator/Assistant Urban Designer for its Public Realm Unit. Reporting to the Unit's Design and Capital Lead, this role will be working closely with the unit's Development and Delivery team and will provide planning, coordination support, and community outreach for public realm capital projects in all five boroughs. The Capital Coordinator will also assist with managing the unit's capital assets post-construction, develop policies and maintenance strategies to support the ongoing management of premier public spaces citywide, and with the review of projects outside the Public Realm Unit to ensure outside projects meet the unit's and agency's goals.The Capital Project Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of the unit's capital portfolio in coordination with other DOT units to ensure smooth transition through the capital pipeline. The chosen candidate will be responsible for managing a select number of projects through each stage of the capital process on schedule and with substantial community involvement, including through scoping, design, construction, and long-term maintenance. This position will work with internal DOT units as well as outside agency partners including Dept. Of Design and Construction, Parks and Recreation, Environmental Protection, Economic Development Corporation, City Planning, and others.Preferred Skills:Professional experience in the urban planning, design, or construction field.Previous experience with mapping software (ArcGIS), Computer-Aided Design (AutoCAD), Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Excel.Ability to identify problems manage against tight timelines, prioritize among competing needs and opportunities, and manage multiple projects at the same time.Strong organizational, administrative, writing and presentation skills.Strong communication skills and a demonstrated interest in street design standards used by New York City, as well as cities both local and abroad.Public Speaking experience.The ideal candidate should be detail oriented, accurate and a capable team player, plus have a positive attitude.Minimum Qualifications:A baccalaureate degree in architecture from an accredited college and one (1) year of full-time experience in planning, design, research, investigations and/or studies related to urban design development programs; orEducation and/or experience equivalent to 1 above. However, a baccalaureate degree in architecture is required of all candidates.
