Job Description:

Based in Chicago Heights, IL Company is looking to engage a motivated Capital Safety Manager who will be responsible for the day-to-day safety of capital projects ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and company requirements, working closely to the construction manager/leader anticipating what is needed to safely execute the projects, participating on scope definition, engineering reviews, leading the safety contracting management programs, issuing permits, delivering training, and supporting activities at all facilities.

• Ensures compliance to applicable HSE and company requirements through program and procedure management (creating, reviewing, updating and auditing), such as but not limited to: Permit to Work, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tag-out, Respiratory Protection, Process Safety Management, Personal Protective Equipment, Blood-borne Pathogens, Emergency Action Plans, Confined Space Program, Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), Electrical Safety, Fire Prevention Plans, etc.

• Coordinates the Management of Change and Process Safety Start-up

• Update and/or develop procedures as part of the project assessments

• Review and audit – process safety review of construction plans

• Preview projects with contractors and project management before work begins to determine safety related risks and mitigation. Oversee the Permit to Work process to ensure compliance.

• Be present at active projects to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance.

• Work with project management team and field workers to develop and implement solutions to safety related issues on project sites.

• Inspect facilities, tools, and equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance

• Administer and ensure training policy and qualification compliance for the contractor management program.

• Develop and mentor employees/contractors to a take corrective action when necessary.

• Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct Environmental Safety and Health inspection violations

• Conducts meetings, toolbox talks with Contractors, Project Managers, Operations, Supervisors, Foreman to discuss standards, citied violations, lessons learned, and potential hazards to resolve disputes regarding occupational safety issues

• Investigate work related accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventable measures

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (required) Safety or Engineering related field is desired

• 10+ years of experience leading HSE programs and development and 5+ years of people management.

•The right candidate will also have experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques.

• Additional training and certification highly desired, including but not limited to:(OSHA 500 / 501 Certification - OSHA 30-hour Training)

• Available to travel up to 10%

• Computer proficiency if Microsoft Office products is required

• Strong analytical skills and data-based approach to decision making

• Strong conflict resolutions and team development skills are required

• Candidates must have demonstrated experience in dealing with safety, environmental and regulatory matters

• Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to lead and motivate others
