Primary Duties:
Administers contrast media into the coronary arteries as directed by a Cardiologist during a cardiac catheterization procedure. Recognizes the effect of pathology and vital signs todeterminethe amount of pressure of each hand injection.Functions as a first assistant to the physician by aiding in the manipulation and placement of guide wires and catheters. Administers contrast mediain accordance withphysician instruction or under the supervision of Cardiac Interventional Tech II.
Applies knowledge of the normal physiologic and electrocardiographic sequences of cardiac contraction and recognizes both minor and dangerous arrhythmia. Providesappropriate patientcare asrequired.Responds to on-call emergenciesin accordance withdepartment policy. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts asrequired. Instructs radiology students.
Maintains adequatestock ofbasic interventional and cardiac supplies and provides supervisor with current inventory status.Performs daily and weekly infection control measures.Maintains allappropriate patientrecords and department check sheets. Correctly enters patient and supply information.
Performs angiographic, therapeutic, and interventional imaging procedures. Provides quality patient care andmonitoringduring all phases of the procedurein accordance withphysician instructions and established policy. Knows all equipment, inventory, and location of supplies. Operates emergency equipment safely.Performs hemodynamic physiologic patient monitoring, recording calculations of cardiovascular procedures.Safelyoperatesall imaging equipment (for example, digital equipment and pressure injectors) to produce high-quality diagnostic imagesin accordance withdepartmental policy
Responsible for pre-procedural duties such as sterile tray preparation, procedural patient education, and confirmation of required lab work and patient medical history, including indications for the study and allpreviousrelated exams.Responsible for post-procedural duties including observation and management of catheter insertion site and patient discharge instructions.Providespatient transportation and communicates patient care status tothe receivingcare unit.Schedules andmaintainsorderly patient flow.
Qualifications:
Satisfactory completion of an AMA-approved school or Radiologic Technology of at least 2 years duration.
Clinical experience in diagnostic radiology with a commitment to complete6-monthMedStarintensive interventional training.
American Registry of Radiologic Technology(ARRT) certification/ registration.
Radiology Technologist license in the State of Maryland.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) certification or eligibility.
