Job Overview:As a Cardiopulmonary Rehab Monitor Tech, you will perform a variety of clinical and technical tasks under the direction of the RN, Respiratory Therapist, or Exercise Specialist to create and maintain an optimal environment for the testing, training, and education of Cardiac and Pulmonary patients. You must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet/exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal.Monitor Techs must demonstrate awareness of patient's rights in all aspects of patient care and reports issues to appropriate person.Job Duties include the following, other duties may be assigned:
  • Operates Remote telemetry system and correctly places EKG electrodes for monitoring.
  • Interprets rhythm strips and documents interpretation in patient electronic record.
  • Recognizes both normal and abnormal rhythms on monitor- notifies RN of abnormal findings upon recognition.
  • Notification of staff if a low battery or lead off is noted
  • Appropriately cleans telemetry monitors between patient use with approved wipes.
  • Obtains accurate vital signs and records blood pressure, pulse, and pulse oximeter reading.
  • Performs blood glucose tests and accurately operate the blood glucose monitor.
  • Obtains accurate patient weight using the standing scale and documents in patient record.
  • Correctly reapplies oxygen via cannula or mask.
  • Assists with patient ambulation/transfers from equipment.May assist patient in setting up exercise equipment under the direction of the RN, RT, or Exercise Specialist.
  • Transports patients to and from the Cardiac or Pulmonary Rehab to the main lobby.Will utilize wheel chair and gait belts appropriately.
  • Maintains and demonstrates proper use of unit supplies and equipment.Maintains and cleans equipment as recommended by the manufacturer's guidelines.Enters work orders and notifies the appropriate person when a piece of equipment needs maintenance and places it out of order.Checks stock levels, restocks and cleans patient care areas and other areas/duties as assigned.
  • Answers the department phone and directs calls to the appropriate person.Cancels or reschedules appointments in EMR when patients call in.
  • Completes patient registration in EMR on patient's first visit to Cardiac or Pulmonary Rehab. Checks patients in for exercise sessions in EMR.
  • Schedules patient exercise sessions in EMR for new patients.
  • Makes follow-up calls for patient referrals for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab.Documents all calls in the patient referral in the EMR.
  • Calls insurances to obtain patient benefit information and to obtain precertification if required.Documents all insurance information in the patient referral.
  • Schedules patients for entry into Cardiac or Pulmonary Rehab.Reschedules patient exercise sessions or schedules additional exercise sessions for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab.
  • Maintains documentation and statistics for client's including participation, activities, referrals, and ancillary activities.
  • Assures equipment in the cardiac rehab is maintained in a safe manner.
  • Demonstrates commitment to ethical business practices and corporate compliance initiative.
  • Demonstrates commitment to effective customer relations.
Required Certifications/Licenses:
  • High School Diploma
  • Patient experience preferred
  • Medical Terminology knowledge preferred
  • Passed and maintained Basic Dysrhythmia and PCT training
