The Lab Technician performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by performing the following duties.

Accountabilities Include:

Performs Essential Job Duties

General Responsibilities:

* Obtains and prepares patient samples for analysis.

* Maintains an accurate, readable record log of all laboratory orders / functions for in-house and outside laboratories.

* Conducts chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood and urine to determine presence of normal and abnormal components, slide preparation, use of the centrifuge and other basis lab skills.

* Interacts and collaborates with each Care Team to facilitate smooth patient flow.

* Reports test results to providers in a timely manner.

* Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data per manufacture guidelines.

* Documents all pertinent patient data and actions taken in the patient record in a concise, accurate and legible fashion.

* Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.

* Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data.

* Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.

* Assures lab encounter slips are completed accurately.

* Provides training to rotational students.

* Orients and trains new clinical services staff to laboratory functions, reports progress to Clinical Coordinator.

* Manages clinic lab pool in-basket and follow-up in a timely manner.

* Conducts daily overdue results audits to assure that patients lab results are resulted in a timely manner.

* Works with patients on outstanding lab orders and assists in removing barriers to obtaining lab services.

* Maintains records and documentation for procedure competency and to meet CLIA requirements and regulations.

* Completes assigned trainings via La Clinica's learning module system (Relias) by required due date.

* Orders and manages laboratory inventory and supplies.

Care Team Responsibilities:

* Process prescriptions refills and authorizations as directed by a provider.

* Schedules and cancelling of medical appointments.

* Takes Care Team telephone calls and messages and provide feedback and answer to patients/providers/pharmacy.

* Provides outreach phone calls to patients to engage in their care and overall health.

* Assists the Care Team in screening patients for Social Determinants of Health and provide education and support on community resources.

* Manages Care Team Message Pool In-Basket.

* Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes medical instruments and package instruments accordingly.

* Conducts daily/weekly/monthly autoclave maintenance according to manufacture guidelines.

* Distributes surveys to patients when applicable according to individual procedures.

* Monitors and download temperatures for vaccines and medications.

* Assists the team in ordering and maintaining inventory of clinic medical and office supplies.

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be able to interact with a variety of individuals at various levels under stressful circumstances while exercising sound judgement, tact, and diplomacy; work productively both independently and in a team setting; communicate with clarity, both verbally and in writing to groups and individuals.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

* Minimum: High School Diploma

* Three to five years of experience in related medical field

* BLS HealthCare Provider (First Aid/CPR)

* Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills

* Skills to intervene and promote reconciliation, compromise and positive outcomes in difficult interactions

* Skilled at using electronic health records as applicable to area of work (EPIC)

Preferred:

* Associates degree in related field

* Lab Technician Certification

* Basic knowledge of adult learning models
