OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY A Student Advisor in the Advising Plus program provides support in connecting students to campus resources and assists students with their semester-to-semester class planning and self-registration.They will support outreach efforts to students for registration, CIA Cares, and other related outreach populations as assigned by their Career & Academic Advising supervisor. Student Advisors will create a rapport with other students by demonstrating patience, empathy and a positive and supportive attitude.In addition, Student Advisors should have strong time-management skills and be able to work independently.   • Must have flexible weekday and weekend availability
ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • When working in the Career and Academic Advising Center, receive and greet all visitors professionally, answering general questions where possible and referring specific enquiries to other staff where appropriate.
  • When working in the Career and Academic Advising Center, ensure that all students check in using the kiosk for appropriate staff or student advisor meeting.
  • Engage with students (in-person or via Microsoft Teams) to provide support for online activities (how to log in to Moodle, student planning, student portal, etc)
  • Engage with students (in-person or via Microsoft Teams) to assist with locating course sequence guides so they can develop their semester-to-semester course registration plan in Student Planning
  • Engage with students (in-person or via Microsoft Teams) to assist with self-registration process (understanding how to register for lab groups, courses with pre-requisites, externship placement, etc)
  • Provide, and/or participate in, large group registration workshops designed to assist students that will be self-registering for classes for the first time.
  • Promote and assist students with planning their schedules during the designated planning time before priority registration opens.
  • Perform outreach via email, phone, and text to students that have not yet registered for the upcoming semester.
  • Perform outreach via email, phone, and text to students for CIA Cares follow up.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Professional Advisor/Supervisor

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
Successful applicant must be able to perform all related functions of the assignment which may include working nights and weekends and ability to work in person or virtually using Microsoft Teams.
