Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.CAMBA's Workforce Development and Refugee Services programs annually provide thousands of low income community members with culturally competent case management, employment, education, vocational training, benefits access, health, financial literacy and English language services, in house and by referral. CAMBA specializes in assisting those with special barriers to employment including low skilled workers, long-term unemployed, immigrants and refugees, limited English speakers, formerly homeless, seniors, formerly incarcerated, trauma survivors and victims of human trafficking. These programs are performance-based, and success is measured by meeting enrollment, employment placement, training, retention and case management goals.Position: Career Advisor/CoachReports To: Supervisor ILocation: 475 Fountain Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11208What The Career Advisor/Coach Does:
  • Create and maintain client files.
  • Collect and submit all documentation regarding client and contract outcomes.
  • In collaboration with clients, prepare Individual Employment Plan for each client, identifying employment goal, interim achievement objectives, and services.
  • Understand all aspects of contract requirements and services definitions.
  • Plan and facilitate orientations and assessments.
  • Analyze results of education or career assessment instruments and review results with clients.
  • Advise clients regarding realistic career/employment goals and the education/training necessary to attain them.
  • Work with clients to develop realistic educational/employment goals leading to self-sufficiency.
  • Facilitate clients' development of such skills as problem-solving, decision-making, etc.
  • Assist clients in maintaining and updating resumes and cover letters; provide additional one-to-one resume building instruction to clients, as needed.
  • Facilitate group instruction with clients using job training program curriculum.
  • Develop strategies with clients regarding how to break through barriers to their goals, and how to advocate for themselves.
  • Recommend and implement strategies to persuade clients to fully participate in their own education/employment placement and retention process.
  • Monitor clients' progress toward their goals through the retention period, and documents progress.
  • Act as client liaison/client advocate, both within CAMBA and/or with outside organizations, regarding such matters as education, healthcare, housing, immigration issues, legal issues, etc.
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • Facilitate group workshops/peer support groups regarding all relevant topics.
  • Monitor client progress in classroom and address negative behavior patterns (e.g., lateness).
  • Participate in marketing/outreach/assessment activities for various programs.
  • Assist clients and/or their families in completing applications for government programs and in processing these applications with appropriate agencies.
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) and one (1) year of experience in client service or customer service.
Other Requirements:
  • Relevant education and years of experience described above.
  • Familiarity with NYC public benefits eligibility and access.
  • Client focused, culturally competent, empathetic, and flexible to the needs of clients and job seekers.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline driven environment.
  • Organized and detail oriented with strong documentation skills and a commitment to upholding confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with refugees, immigrants, young adults, and low income populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
Compensation: $55,000 annuallyWhen salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate.
