Essential Job FunctionsCareer Advisors on the Career Planning & Professional Connections team at UW- Green Bay are focused on providing pre-emptive, engaged, and supportive career advising to students that will lead to more intentional connections and success. The Career Advisor is responsible for building strong, intentional relationships and advising students in a variety of career development areas including self-discovery and reflection, understanding the world of work, experiential learning, advanced education, and job and internship searching. This Career Advisor will lead and support the efforts of the Career Planning & Professional Connections team directly in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at UW-Green Bay to provide services tailored to specific majors.Career Advisors are responsible for designing engaging and meaningful workshops and programs, coordinating networking opportunities, introducing and connecting students to work-based learning experiences, and developing intentional relationships with employers, faculty, and staff members. The Career Advisors may teach career-related courses as well. This position reports to the Director of Career Planning & Professional Connections and the Dean of the College for which they support. Career Advisors will strive to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.What You'll Do
  • Educates or advises students and recent alumni individually or in groups through various mediums about career exploration, self-assessment, skills, materials development, and career decisions
  • Builds intentional relationships with students, faculty members, and employers to introduce and connect students to work-based learning experiences
  • Develops and delivers career development programming and resource materials across various mediums to provide education to students
  • May identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students
  • Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation
  • Participates in the campus-wide career services community, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree at time of application
  • Demonstrated ability to build meaningful, quality relationships with a commitment to student success
  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, database) and the internet
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree with two years of experience working in education, recruiting or related experience
  • Experience with resume writing, interviewing techniques, internship and job search strategies
  • Experience in student program development and implementation; planning and/or facilitating seminars and workshops
  • Experience working with students from underrepresented groups
  • Knowledge of Peoplesoft, Navigate, and Handshake or other online recruiting systems
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Hmong, Oneida, or Somali

This position may have the option to work on-campus or a hybrid schedule, subject to approved telecommuting request. Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). If you have questions regarding this, please contact Human Resources.Compensation and BenefitsSALARY INFORMATIONMinimum salary of $44,000.This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).BENEFIT DETAILSThe UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually.
