Career Services - Eureka College

Overview

Reporting to the Director of Career Services and/or the Associate Director of Career Services, the Career Ambassador position is a new student position in Career Services geared toward the improved functioning of the Career Services office and the bettering of service to Eureka College students and recent alumni. Overall, the Career Ambassador position assists the Director and Associate Director manage day-to-day tasks in Career Services. Career Ambassadors should display qualities of: professionalism and reliability; maturity/responsibility and ability to work unsupervised; organization and ability to take direction; detail orientation and creativity; and approachability and appreciation of diversity.

Job Description

Students in the Career Ambassador role will work up to 15 hours per week in the Career Services office during business hours and occasionally outside the office and/or office hours (e.g. meeting students in the library, attending Career Services events after hours, giving presentations to classes, etc.). This position is primarily administrative in nature, making and taking appointments with students, taking messages and managing resources, performing data entry, and training and educating self and others. Opportunities may exist for social media management, print and electronic visual media design (marketing), and other creative outlets.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, students must have at least one semester of college experience. All applicants must be eligible to work as student employees at Eureka College. Preferred qualifications include a major in Education (preferably Secondary Education), Digital & Media Design, Communication, English, Business Administration, or Psychology. All majors welcome with an interest in careers, professional development, and/or higher education. Work experience is desirable but not required. Strong GPA preferred.

Position Responsibilities

* Meet with and advise/counsel students about majors, career paths, job and internship searches, as able. Form mentoring relationships as appropriate.

* Review student rsums, cover letters, professional statements/application essays, etc. and make suggestions for improvement, often with the goal of that student having a follow-up meeting with Career Services professional staff (i.e. the Director or Associate Director).

* Answer phone calls and walk-ins to the Career Services office and schedule appointments as necessary between callers/students and Career Ambassadors and/or Career Services professional staff.

* Assist with inventory management of Career Services resources, such as the Career Closet and Career Services library.

* Perform data entry and compilation for First Destination Survey and other tracking initiatives as requested.

* Assist in the creation of Career Services marketing materials and event & services advertising, including but not limited to:

* Social media marketing/advertising

* Designing graphics and flyers for services and events

* Writing blog posts, articles, bulletins, announcements, etc.

* Other marketing campaigns, such as word-of-mouth and other in-person marketing/advertising

* Promote, attend, and participate in career events (workshops, presentations, job fairs, etc.), both those hosted by Eureka College and not hosted by Eureka College, as necessary, able, or required.

* This includes assisting in the implementation/facilitation of events (workshops, presentations, job fairs, etc.) as needed.

* Demonstrate in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings how to use Career Services resources/platforms (e.g. Brightspace, Handshake, Talentfly) and other professional platforms (e.g. LinkedIn).

* Attend Career Services team meetings as required.

* Attend trainings as required.

* Must be able to maintain professionalism and privacy.

Remuneration

The Career Ambassador position pays at the rate of $9.25/hour.
